Understanding the rules of tax options

This is my first time posting. Apologies if the answer is out there somewhere but my online search for an answer has been fruitless so far!

I currently pay for two days of nursery per week via a salary sacrifice scheme via my employer. I cannot afford a full time place for nursery so have found a childminder for the other three days per week.

I appreciate that I cannot use the tax free government childcare account for the nursery place alongside salary sacrifice, but am I allowed to use an account to pay for the secondary childcare setting?

I can see lots of people asking if they can use both together for the same provider, but I can't find anyone using two different childcare providers.

Thanks in advance.

You cannot use Employer Supported Childcare - commonly referred to as childcare vouchers but it includes other things like the employer directly contracting with the nursery - and tax free childcare.

If you leave the employer scheme, you cannot rejoin. The scheme was closed in October 2018. I assume you were in the scheme before then. If not, then that may change things.

Tax Free Childcare saves up to £2000 per child, per year. Max benefit is £500 per 3 month period. ESC/childcare vouchers saves you Income Tax and National Insurance.
