How much 1x30min school drop London Zone2?

Just to check what the going rate would be for one school drop off that would take me approx 30mins?

My reference point is a good nanny is £20ph but they work more hours. So basically what's a good rate for a "one off"hour (ie pick up and drop off) for four days a week?

Is it early enough that they can go on to another job?

You could try advertising at £20 a day and then up it if you don't find anyone.

gogomoto · 24/07/2023 12:45

30 minutes one way or 30 mins in total

jannier · 24/07/2023 13:40

Are you asking for pick up from your home to school and done?

NioNioNio · 25/07/2023 04:12

@gogomoto yes , one leg takes 30mins to return home. Daily for pick up and drop off would be one HR.

@jannier yes they would come to my door and take to school/vice versa

You need a taxi not a childcare professional.

Verymodestmouse · 25/07/2023 04:30

Yes that is about right for a nanny. But as previous posters have said, you’re unlikely to be able to get a nanny who will do that for you regularly unless it fits in with another job close by. (I have needed a nanny to do this for me on a number of occasions and it’s been very hard to find someone to do it!)

If you need it regularly then a child minder or breakfast club might be suitable. You drop the child with them earlier and they take the child to school.

Foxesandsquirrels · 25/07/2023 05:05

You'll find it very difficult to find someone who can do this in all honesty. It's not really about hourly rate.

decaffonlypls · 25/07/2023 06:32

I think you will struggle to find someone to do that. You could use a childminder or school club (if there is one) or a nanny/cleaner who comes for a few hours a day

jannier · 25/07/2023 14:21

Is there a valid reason why you can't drop your child to a childminder for school drop offs I'm assuming you WFH?

NioNioNio · 25/07/2023 19:33

@jannier Hi, it's for the times when I go into the office. If I do drop off myself then I will be late into work....and doing pick up means having to leave very promptly if not early so hence the conundrum.

However paying someone....let's say £30 in total/2 X £15 to do both legs also adds up!

With a childminer you would drop to them possibly before breakfast and then pay for wrap around. Depending on the childminder this could be just for the hours you use or for sessions.

Peeeas · 25/07/2023 19:40

Childminder here in zone 3 charges £25/day for wraparound (starts 8am, ends 6pm, obv school between). Includes food. Probably more economical than nanny charges!

iwasthewalrus · 25/07/2023 21:38

People generally use a childminder or after school club for wrap around care. Someone purely giving your daughter a lift may find it impacts on their car insurance. Could you lift share with another parent or is your DC going to school out of area?

NioNioNio · 26/07/2023 19:16

@Peeeas you drop them off at childminders and then they will drop off and collect from school? Then you will collect at childminders at end of day?

Yes that’s right! The school may have a list of childminders who do this

I have a childminder that does school drop off and pick up for me once a week.
She lives a few mins walk away from me, so I drop them there at 7:45 (I start wfh at 8) and she drops them back to my house at 4pm, on her way back to hers from picking up other children at the same school.

Have you spoken to other parents in your area with children that go to the same school, to see what they have in place?

NurseryNurse10 · 27/07/2023 18:39

Try bubble childcare app. May find a student willing to do it.

mondaytosunday · 27/07/2023 21:48

No chance of sharing it with another parent? You do it when you are wfh and they do it when you have to go in? I did drop offs one week then pick ups the following with another family.

Yes because they will have several children they work with...you can use tax free childcare. They often include food.
