What can my ap do free or cheaply in London this weekend?

Sorry, I'm cross posting this on UK Travel too.

My ap is visiting London for the first time this weekend (Thu evening to Sunday morning). I'm looking for ideas of things that her and a friend can do cheaply or for free.

Thanks

Tate Modern on the South Bank is free and is a great place to visit (the cafe is expensive though so I would give that a miss ). National Gallery on Trafalgar Square, National Portrait Gallery (next door); From there she could walk to Houses of Parliament/Big Ben, cross Westminster Bridge to the South Bank and walk down to the Design Museum and the Globe Theatre past all the street artists. Covent Garden is worth a wander around the main Piazza but also around Neal Street/ Neals Yard. The Covent Garden market will be in full swing on Saturday and there are always street performers in that area. Cafe's there are expensive for not very attractive food but they could take a walk towards Leicester Square from there and find a cheap Chinese or Japanese restaurant (can heartily recommend Tokyo Diner......just google for address). Victoria & Albert Museum in Kensington is great (especially if they are interested in fashion history); All these places are free. They can buy a daily travel card which gives you unlimited travel on tube/bus. Notting Hill/Portabello Road market and all the vintage clothing stores are fab but maybe Camden would be more her thing?

Grab a copy of Time Out from WHSmiths (or similar!) and have a look at the listings for this week (you can also check out their website).

Hope this helps!

I was thinking more the pubs/high street than the market, Jura!

If she will go again, the BBC do free tickets to concerts / radio shows etc. Easier to get tickets to 14th century choral recitals than Just A Minute, obviously, but if she likes classical music it might be worth approaching the ticket unit.

London's sunday markets are an institution - try some of those

she should buy an Oyster card for cheaper travel. The number 12 bus has quite a tourist-friendly route
