Would this put you off a childminded? (Dog)

Would it put you off a childminder if they had a dog? My exact situation is that I have one dog, a king charles cavalier spaniel. He would be kept in the kitchen behind a stair gate when the mindees are in the front room (where they spend most of the time). When we are in the kitchen I wouldn't usually (with my own kids) think to shut him out as he is very chilled and just lies in his bed, comes over for an occasional stroke but I obviously could if this is what the parents want.

I have 2 kids myself and the dog is no trouble, he's a total softie but appreciate some parents might be put off? I'm hoping not all?

The fact that your mindees are confined to just the living room would put me off as much as you having a dog. Unless the living room is very large and leads out onto the garden?

Would you want the minded children loose in the kitchen? Shere else would you expect them to be?

My daughter's old childminder had 2 spaniels. They were mainly kept in the kitchen and the house was kept in a clean state. The dogs were lovely and the kids loved them, she taught them how to handle them. She was open and honest about them when I did my first visit and so it was never an issue.

I think if parents have an issue they should look for another childminder but I think it enhances a child’s experience having well-behaved, gentle and looked-after pets around.

Not if I knew the dog was that sort of breed- small and of nice character, and had met it at settling in sessions and had no concerns. Our childminder has a cockapoo and she is lovely- DD loves her, and I'm very cautious with my kids around dogs in general, depending on what sort they are and the temperament.
Our childminder does what you say you would do, in terms of having a deparate area behind a gate, and comes out sometimes, so the dog is not forced on the children and they get a break from each other which I think is important for the dog too as kids can get quite OTT for them sometimes.

A big dog would worry me more.

It never put me off and my family never had dogs when I was growing up,
My boys were babies when they started to go to my childminder she had a little terrier and he was lovely and absolutely no bother however if I’d turned up to the first meet with the childminder and she had a dog that was bigger and more boisterous I may of had some concerns.
