Hi everyone, I am currently looking into the cost of a nanny. All nannies seems to advertise Net and it seems to be very difficult to figure out how much I would have to spend in total.

Can you please advise?

Have you thought about a childminder? Low ratios at that age and she would be in a home environment. Very much cheaper than a nanny!

Also nursery may be fine, maybe visit some? Mine went from ten months and have done very well. All the best planning your return to work x

I went into a nursery setting for the experience ( was and still part time Nannying )
I was appalled at the lack of empathy towards the children. Staff were young, rude and seem to be focused more on paperwork rather than the needs of the child.
My opinion you are best served with a nanny who will be devoted and give 100 % care towards your child.
Something impossible in a nursery setting.

@SouthLondonNannies do you not promote your jobs , nannies and clients to discuss gross in all aspects of a job ?

Talking nett makes it so much harder to work out the gross figure

Elektra1 · 11/11/2024 18:56

They can't quote gross because they don't know what other income the nanny has, which will affect her income tax rate.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/11/2024 21:18

They can gross. They work out the nanny wants whether 16/18/20g etx

If they discuss nett the family can end up laying more if say a student loan or another job

No need to discuss nett at all

All the professional nannies including myself discuss gross

I was talking gross not nett in 2007 when I changed to a new family !!!!

Thats 17yrs ago

Yet agencies and famillies still talk about nett

Why

No, this is exactly why you should use gross. Gross is not impacted by your tax rate, net is.

I went back to work at 8mo and 7mo. With first child I had a childminder and second a nanny, latter definitely more seamless. When younger was two we added in 2 days per week nursery for socialising and that went well. It is a really good service but for 40hrs/week you’re definitely in the £40-45k region cost to you.
