After school nanny help

Any tips for finding a part time nanny?

DS starts school in sept and apparently I wasn't quick enough to get him on the list for after school club. Childminders also all seem full. So now I'm looking at nannies but no idea where to start. What should I ask them? Are there any accreditations, etc I should look for? Should I bring DS with me to interview them, or meet them on my own first?

Sorry if I sound really clueless!

I came to this board to ask the same questions. Bumping to Active for both of us!

Look on some care sites.. I am mainly a cleaner but do school picks ups too for a family with 2 dc.

Meet them on your own first. Then do a trial to see if they get on. After school nannies are quite tricky to get. Think students and retirees, possibly a fellow mum who could bring her child along.

It can help if you bulk up hours. I had someone who started at 12:30, for a dog walk then cleaned till 3:45 and met the school bus and did snacks etc. only twice a week though.

I'm a part time nanny. I usually speak to the parent on the phone first then meet them with the children out somewhere. If it goes well I'll visit them at home. As a parent you get much more of a feel for someone when the children are there. After school Nannies are not easy to find I don't think, will you need more hours in the school holidays?

Should have said look on childcare.com for nannies in your area.

Koru Kids?

Thanks all. I've found a couple of people on childcare.co.uk who I'm interviewing later in the week, then if I like them I'll introduce to DS. Fingers crossed...

I would love to bulk up the hours with cleaning, etc. but I wasn't really budgeting for getting a nanny at all so I'm not sure if that'll be an option!
