Childcare charging

Can I please get an idea of cost for the following childcare:
DAY ONE: 3pm - Collect children from primary school, look after them in their home, make supper, stay overnight.
DAY TWO:
Take to school for 7.45am. Collect from primary school, look after them in their home, make supper, bedtime. Parents home 10pm.

Any advice gratefully received on how to work this out, please.....?

Will there be preparations of such things as breakfast clothes etc
if so I would look at £250-280 for the two days.
you want a waking night shift with an early wake, and two bedtimes.

CatsOnTheChair · 09/06/2023 19:26

Well, it's 24 hours of care (ignoring the fact you would probably want them on call for school hours too).
Minimium wage is £10.42.
So, £250 minimium.

How old are the children and do you mean childcarers home or yours?
If under 8 at the childcarers home you would be looking at a childminder ....as they typically work between 7am and 6pm what your asking would mean 24 hour shifts that's not great would cost a lot and be hard to find.
Are you also asking them to bring your child home at 10pm? It would be normal for you to do that.....and pretty unfair on a child who has to go to school.

Hi, not a childminder, it's all at the children's home. Children are 8 and 6.

Around £12/15 per hr would be a fair rate for childcare

However, this would only apply if the person looking after the children was a qualified Nanny…and had appropriate insurance, paediatric first aid training etc.

If someone was doing this informally or as a favour, it is unlikely they would expect to be paid as much as a professional.

HappyAsASandboy · 10/06/2023 08:40

This is a part time nanny role.

The complicating factor is that it is live in, but very part time. But also still children in the sole care of the nanny overnight, rather than normal live in where the nanny has overnights to herself.

Since nanny would have sole care the whole time, I'm leaning towards £12-£15 x 31 hours (though more reasonably they'd need an extra hour or two to be at your home prepping dinner etc for an hour or so before school pick up?) which would be £372 - £465 per week.

ColonelSpondleClagnut · 10/06/2023 12:11

Ok so am I correct in thinking this is a one-off?

So not a part time nanny role, or a childminding role, rather a one-off babysitting whilst you attend an event like a wedding overnight and then late back the following day?

20 years ago I paid 150 for a school pick up, an overnight, and drop off at school the next day. So maybe double that? 🤷🏻‍♀️

ColonelSpondleClagnut · 10/06/2023 12:12

If it's an informal arrangement though it really depends on what you and the other person are happy with.
Also where in the country you are based and whether it's a friend doing a favour or if you're going to reciprocate in some way.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/06/2023 17:26

So 31hrs as have to pay while they are at school

31 x £15g minimum as assume a one off/temp so will be se so no pension or employers ni

£465 minimum @Possster

cyncope · 11/06/2023 20:55

I'd say you're looking at around £350? I'd expect to pay around £250 per 24 hours.
