I'm curious about the differences in childcare costs depending on where your live.

Two kids, ages 3 and 1.
Three days full time a week (8am -6pm).
Lunch and snacks included.
Costs us £1446 p/m (£1164 after tax top up).

What would that cost where you are?

Berkshire and would charge £1410 assuming the 3 year old isn't funded yet. Less if they were.

Talipesmum · 06/06/2023 15:11

That’s about what it cost for us 14 years ago in SW London / twickenham. About £1200/month per child for full time.

Bluelightbaby · 06/06/2023 15:18

2x kids at £6ph for 30hrs a week each

= £1440 pm

bravotango · 06/06/2023 15:21

Pretty much the same - about 750 per child pre tax top up

Cranfor · 06/06/2023 15:24

I pay that for one child 😭

ReeseWitherfork · 06/06/2023 15:27

My kids nursery charges £64.96 for under 3s and £63.41 for over 3s (for a ten hour day). £1540.
But there’s a sibling discount at 10%.
= £1386 a month

3 year olds with funding are £34 a week, so with that adjustment, so adding that to the 1yo…
= £824 a month

I’m in Hampshire.

RhubarbandCustardYummyYummy · 06/06/2023 15:27

within £50 of that

Yes were using a nursery in syon park 14 years ago and it was £1200 pcm. Goodness knows what it is now.

Wow! Thanks everyone for replying. That's really interesting to see the difference funded hours make. When we started in our nursery it was a bit on the expensive side as it's Montessori, but now everywhere seems as expensive if not more so. I'm bracing myself for another price hike!

The 3 year old would get funding the term after they are 3 so depends how 3 they are.

Whatames · 08/06/2023 17:56

£42 per day here with snacks etc included so £84?per day for 2.

Whatames · 08/06/2023 17:56

North Yorkshire

minirollmuncher · 08/06/2023 17:58

Around £1570 for two kids here - north east

jannier · 08/06/2023 18:00

N w London £55 a day per child. Funded child if stretched would be £14.44 a day for unfunded hours assuming 22 funded hours a week. So £830 a month.

MariaDingbat · 10/06/2023 08:27

Thanks everyone. One of the reasons I'm asking is because I'm in Northern Ireland and we don't get the 30 free hours unfortunately. We get 12 1/2 hours a week in a preschool starting in the next school year after the child turns 3 (So starting Sept 2024 for a child who turn 3 Nov 2023 for example).

You have to apply for preschool places to get the free hours and, as it's only 2 1/2 hours a day, you have to pay for wrap around care and figure out how to transport your child between school and nursery each day. Especially if they have the afternoon session from 12.30 - 2.45pm, then you have to transport them twice. It often costs more than not using the free hours!

£830 a month would be amazing!

Oh and it's really competitive and hard to get your child into a lot of the popular preschools, especially if it's attached to a good school. My daughter is turning 3 in November so I'm only learning about all this now and getting really depressed about it all. It is looking like we won't be able to afford to send her to preschool because it would cost too much with the additional wrap around care needed.

1,118 but that's not taking into account 3 year old funding.

JenniferBarkley · 10/06/2023 08:43

I'm also in NI and mine were 3 and 1 a couple of years ago. That's a painful year!

We pay 850 for full-time nursery, with a 5pc discount for full-time and 10pc for siblings. Friends in Belfast are paying over 1000 now so I'm bracing for an increase.

Our nursery do drop off and collection for all the local preschools, have you spoken to your nursery? The price is the same but it means they get to go to preschool, which I think is a great stepping stone to P1, and then you have the place for the holidays as well. Worked well for us.

Our youngest will be 3 in the first week of July, so she won't be at school until she's well past 5. Full-time childcare until then! Painful.

toddlermom99 · 10/06/2023 08:55

My nursery is £66/full day. So that would be 1716 per month for two children.

daffodilandtulip · 10/06/2023 09:07

Midlands. I'm a provider and would charge £1080 a month for 3 days x two children.

greyhairnomore · 10/06/2023 09:13

£95 a day is what my SD paid about two years ago.

LuciaMar · 24/06/2023 22:43

Hi,
Hampshire not 3 yet - 3 full days (36hrs total) but never leave him all 12hrs we pay £1067 / month.
Hopefully there will be some difference after the free 15hrs but now as I am reading nurseries can be cheeky and not even give you those if they are not spread out in a way that you get those hours is making me very anxious and scared.

RidingMyBike · 25/06/2023 16:45

That's good for two children!

We paid about £1400 a month for one under-2 doing 3 days a week at nursery with slightly longer days than that

Thefaceofboe · 27/06/2023 13:37

My child goes 5 days a week and this month it was £1,800 🥵 Bristol

Moonlightsonatas · 27/06/2023 13:40

3 year old has funded hours plus the 1 year old, we still pay £1200 for 5 sessions (3 yr old goes 3 days and 1 year old goes 2). If they both went 3 days it would be £1450ish.
