Just saw this in The Guardian
https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2023/may/18/the-best-childcare-in-the-world-maybe-so-but-new-parents-in-iceland-are-holding-out-for-better
Summary:
- Iceland spents 1.7% of GDP on early childhood education
- In 2020 96% of 3 - 5 year olds were enrolled in early childhood education
- Parental leave is 6 months of each at 80% pay plus another 6 weeks to share between them
- Parents spend 5% of their income on early childhood education and care
- Iceland had a baby boom during Covid so there is a shortage of day-mothers (childminders) and preschools for children between 12 months to 2 years.
Anyway I wish we had more of their problems.
