what turn of phrase do you use for certain things the children have done?

for example, if a child has been upset when parents leave or has screamed most of the day..i say "your dd/ds has been rather 'unsettled' today and 'has seemed very tired'...translated into your dd'ds screamed and made my ears bleed then no matter what i did to take their mind off it they sulked/screamed more/hit/fought/went into a grump with everyone....unsettled an tired covers soooo much

what do you use?

Do you know what, I can't for the life of me think what I say!!

KaySamuels · 18/02/2008 20:09

Have you had one of those days Rose?

I just tell them straight - luckily though my mindees are very mellow so don't have to impart bad news very often!

ROSEgarden · 18/02/2008 20:23

NO..ive been off...just thikning of the stupid things i say to make the parents feel better when all i want to say it your dd/ds has been a little monster today please have words or i will..thankfully my mindees are mostly fab, just times when ive decorated the words up so much it doesnt actually sound like their dd/ds has been any bother at all

I have been known to say, 'you dd/ds has been very 'spirited' today!' But like Katy, it doesn't happen very often. Mostly at home time, when parents take charge! I've also said, 'your dd/ds has had ishoos with xxx today!'

MaureenMLove · 18/02/2008 20:35

Bugger! I've done it again! I mean Kay not Katy! Sorry love!

ThePrisoner · 18/02/2008 20:36

Mine will have been "contrary" - but all the parents know that this means that they have been monsters!!

NiftyNanny · 18/02/2008 20:51

"have seemed tired........"
and
"been restless"

I've used unsettled too at nursery! I've said "he's been frustrated by things today" to explain someone being just.... in a foul mood! That's how it seems to me.

My lot are ill at the moment, so I'm getting all the fun and games of half term, we can't go out on trips to museums, soft play etc cos we're all wheezy! I'm trying to figure out who's the frustrated one!

crace · 18/02/2008 20:55

Yep, "unsettled" and "lively" for off the wall craziness, but it seems nicer than your dc was out of control

crace · 18/02/2008 20:58

Oh yes, and "tired", that's a good one

southernbelle77 · 18/02/2008 21:11

Had been a 'pain in the arse' - is that allowed?!!
Joking, clearly!

ROSEgarden · 19/02/2008 09:34

one of my newer mindees came a few weeks ago with a t-shirt saying "ive just got back from the naughty step"!..i said to his mum ah well ive taught him well as least he knows were it is now..
