builders around her house for weeks, major works going on in the house and garden, cranes and tools around, doors open from the garden onto the street, broken fence that went straight into the next door neighbour...and the children would let happily out to play in the middle of this chaos?
Would this be enough to make you take your child away from said childminder?

I forgot to add that builders have big dog with them every day....

Just wondering if I am an overprotective mum...

Completely agree with you, however the odd one off is one thing....having different workmen in and out of the house and garden every day over a matter of weeks and possibly months is another thing.

At very least Ofsted will requite her to demonstrate and explain how she will keep all children safe and ensure their wellbeing and supervision throughout the works.

Update:
Have spoken to CM and we agreed that since dd hasn't been going for last 2 weeks I have already paid for half notice as I normally pay for holidays. However I will stop using her from Monday and no further money is due to her.

I am feeling quite relieved but also down as I am now looking for childcare and a week end is not enough, MIL will help next week thank God!

I wanted to thank you all as usual for your wise words- the CM had made me feel like I was overreacting.

There have been other incidents before when dd has come to open the door when I rung the bell picking her up earlier than expected and CM was in the garden and didn't even know she was outside with me.

Or the time when I went to pick up dd and found other mindee wandering in the front garden having opened the door unnoticed! (house is on main busy road....)

As she is local and I have used her, some mums from dd school have asked me about her and I don't know if I should be 100% honest and say what I think or lie and then live with the guilt if the same happens to them

feeling little shocked about the children being able to open front door- it should be locked to prevent escapisms!!
its an awkward situation when other mums ask if you havent been totally happy with the care yourself. but i think personally i would be 100 per cent honest. perhaps by saying good points that you did like, then some of bits you didnt like ie the access to front door. then they can make a judgement for themselves
good luck with the childcare search
