Entertaining kids in a wet caravan

We are off on a caravan holiday to lake district (near Kendall/ windermere) next wknd and the weather looks seriously wet.
We've got two kids age 3 and 6 and just wondering how to entertain them in the caravan and what nearby activities people might know of that are not outdoor. Ive bought new books and we have a an Easter bingo kit...but we're definitely going to think of some more. Any ideas welcome!

Ha Ha I read this as your caravan was/ is wet and thought what the heck are you doing staying in a wet caravan.

I dont know the area at all so can not help with that bit , but I recon as long as it isnt cold and you have all got decent waterproofs there will be loads of walks you can still go on and hopefully things like cafes and parks will be a bit quieter if the weather is naff .
in your (dry ) caravan can you do a easter egg hunt using mini / Cadbury crème eggs

coodawoodashooda · 08/04/2023 15:59

Pretend it isn't wet and get out there as best you can. Also loads of swimming

PoorMrsNorris · 08/04/2023 16:06

Swimming
Museums
Soft play
Cheap lunch out, lots of chain restaurants are doing £1 meals for kids with an adult meal
Have they got wet weather gear? It's still worth getting outside if you have waterproof clothing.

If you're staying in then:
Craft kids - there are lots in supermarkets
Card games
Sticker books
Puzzle books
Board games
Planning and making their own dinner with appropriate support, they can make menus and placemats with paper. My DS loved doing this in lockdown.

Cook up a batch of playdough or salt dough. It used entertain mine for ages.

Draw with the type of pencil that you can wet to turn into watercolour. Draw the pictures then put them outside to be rained on and watch magic pictures appear (use thick paper that can stand a bit of wetting)

Go out then come home and build your day in Lego.

Lakes are often wet just wear appropriate clothing and go expore

RideACockHorseToSunburyCross · 08/04/2023 17:19

"Lakes are often wet"

🤣

This, but also Lego, bingo and snakes and ladders.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 08/04/2023 17:26

Put coats on, hoods up and wellies on and go outside. Much more fun than sitting inside.

Coffeellama · 08/04/2023 17:27

Embrace the weather OP, it’s the Lake District, it rains, take waterproofs and enjoy. Windermere as the Beatrix potter museum and the boat cruises are nice, keswick has a pencil museum if you are into that.

Cookerhood · 08/04/2023 17:29

I think we did an aquarium on a wet lakes holiday.

Lordofthebutterfloofs · 08/04/2023 17:29

Take plenty of weather appropriate clothes and plan in the cost of using the launderette a few times.

Really hard to get coats ect dry in a caravan.

Defo get out and about though. Staying in would be a nightmare

Sohungrynow · 08/04/2023 17:30

Maybe some rice crispy cakes with mini eggs decorations.

a mary berry cheese scone mix shaped into a round and portion scored before cooking. I make this in my van, she does a really nice fruit scone version too. Then have an afternoon tea, get the kids to design and colour place mats.

madamecake · 08/04/2023 17:30

Lakes Aquarium is good, you could combine it with a trip on Haverthwaite steam train and a boat trip on Windermere.

But honestly, put on waterproofs and just get out there anyway!

IggyAce · 08/04/2023 17:33

Get them a puddle suit and wellies and still go for an explore.
If you’re set on staying in take one of those character cake baking boxes and make some cakes.
Stickers, colouring and a couple of orchard games would be good.
Since you’re in the lakes you must visit Booths for nice treats and their cafes are decent

madamecake · 08/04/2023 17:34

You could also do the transport museum at Newby Bridge, near the aquarium and steam train.

Greenlands Farm is great too if you don’t mind driving south a bit (Carnforth) has a lovely little farm to see lambs, chickens etc and a huge soft play with cafe.

Rockingcloggs · 08/04/2023 17:42

I've got a caravan in the Peak District! If we didn't go outside when it rains then we'd be inside 9 times out of 10!

Seriously, go out! You're not aspirins so you won't dissolve if you get wet.

Change the mentality of 'it's crap cause it's raining' into 'so what if it rains' - wear your waterproofs and go and have fun regardless of the weather!

MissPoldark · 08/04/2023 17:55

I don’t think it’s possible to rely on a weather forecast this far in advance & make plans based on that, so maybe hang on for a few days

bizzywiththefizzy · 08/04/2023 19:00

Jigsaws?

EyesOnThePies · 08/04/2023 19:16

Allan Bank NT house near Grasmere has kids activities in the rooms.

Cinema in Ambleside

Wear then out out walking in proper waterproofs. Take Lego.

Riapia · 08/04/2023 19:29

All the local people will be in their nice dry homes. They have more sense than to be out in that type of weather.
Go knock on a few doors and plead to join them. Their children will love to be able to make new friends. ……maybe.
😁😁

Belle96 · 08/04/2023 19:46

We went this way last week, we had one wet day, we still went for a walk as it was a constant drizzle and the place we stayed backed on to part of the lake, the ducks were still there to feed so we did that and then games in the lodge and evening entertainment in the club house, mine are 8 and 3 and all was OK! More than one day of rain, I would suggest same sort of thing, depending on the ages of the kids, pack board games and take them to the arcade X

Belle96 · 08/04/2023 19:48

I've just realised I'm one of these who doesn't read the OP fully and the ages if the DC are there 🤦‍♀️ the Beatrix Potter museum is inside

Binfluencer · 08/04/2023 19:53

I'd stay home 😂

Binfluencer · 08/04/2023 19:53

I'd stay home 😂

So would I. Or go out. I wouldn't be holed up in a caravan for too long. Surely they are just used as a base to stay whilst you get out and do stuff?

Snugglemonkey · 08/04/2023 21:09

Do any of you know how to do Riverdance?
