Looks like i am going to be taking on abefore and after schooly. He's 11 and it's only till july which fits with me ok. but the times would be from 8.20 ish and then drop at school for 8.50 and then collect from school at 3.25 and keep till 6pm latest. no dinner required just after school snack. i thought an hour for the morning and 3 for the evening session. that makes 4 per day? does that sound ok or do people only charge for hours used etc. advice needed, bit new to this!

also what can i find for him to do? have no experience of this age lately!

i charge for the full hours for my before and after schoolies, ie one starts at 6.15am and i charge from 6am to 9am. Then after school i pick up at 3.15 but charge from 3pm when i leave the house until 5 or 6 depending on when she is booked in for. i think the four hours is right, this is what i would do.

one of mine is 10 and they usually just want to watch tv, play outside or do their homework and go on computer etc.i just asked parents what was acceptable to them and followed their lead.

Oh I hadn't thought about that! I've got an after schoolie starting and it's for 3 1/2 hours but it will take me 15 minutes to get there so I think I might charge for 4 hours!
I know a lot of the childminders round these parts charge a minimum of 4 hours anyway.

chankins · 13/02/2008 19:48

I think that sounds fair enough. I would agree with deembee, just check with parents what they want him to do ie homework, computer etc. As long as its ok with them you can just let him chill out how he wishes.

ok glad about the 4 hours bit! meeting them on sunday so will got through it all with them then. will ask about what is accepatble and what he likes to do. my husband is a secondary science teacher so he'll be great with the homeowrk bit! will have to get a safety gurad thingy for the internet.

I am not a CM, but I am the mother of an 11 year old DS. You may be surprised at the size of after-school snack he has. Mine had today, 2 weetabix and 2 slices of toast. Boys that age are always "starving", so make sure you charge enough to cover his food and drink!
