If you have a nanny do you expect her to work bank holidays? Good Friday and Easter Monday? Do you discuss it before each and every one or is it assumed that she will always work them, or always have them off?

Never expected our nanny to work bank holidays because we wouldn’t be working on those days. They form part of her annual leave (as they do in my own job). If I had a job where I worked BHs I would have said so at the time of hiring

I would think that would be discussed when hiring as to whether or not the parent needs childcare those days and whether or not the nanny is able to cover them. I wouldn’t say it’s ‘assumed’ either way as it could be yes or could be no.

All of my nanny contracts have worded holiday as 5.6 weeks including BH or 4 weeks plus BH.

What does yours say?

Discuss it before each event. When I worked for a medic, it would depend on their shifts as to if they were working on a bank holiday, and thus I was working on a bank holiday.

Neither nanny, nor parent, should make assumptions. Discuss it each time, even if the contract says they get bank holidays off, as it is a good reminder for all involved that they won't be coming in that day.

Do you have them off? Does your partner? If yes then so should your nanny, unless you agree something different in advance.

I’m a nanny with my own child and can’t access nursery on bank holidays- absolutely I’m having the day off.

It depends, when we had a nanny working Monday and Thursday, BH would have taken up a chunk of her leave, so I said that she could either take them as holiday, work them or take unpaid leave.

It should be discussed and agreed at the interview/contract stage so that everyone knows what's happening and is happy with it.

If you've agreed in the contract that it's variable, for example in the case of a medic as per PP, then you discuss each time. But you need to have made this clear in the contract/discussion at the outset.

As a self employed mn I have but my choice and I charge double which the clients pay

Refer to your contract - do you need her to work bank holidays? Then it should be in the contract .
if you don’t you can either include it as part of statutory holiday entitlement 5.6 weeks or pay it as extra holiday .
In my experience nannies don’t usually work BHs as parents are off unless parents have medical jobs. BHs usually part of 5.6 weeks .
As a nanny I wouldn’t take a job that required BHs to be worked ,as I left a career that did for family work balance .

I assume that the lack of response form the OP means there is no contract in place. No idea if OP is the nanny or the employer in this situation.

By law employees have it off. If you wanted them to work them, you'd have to discuss that, then if they agreed get them to sign a contract. You could offer double wages on that bank holiday, if you want them to work it.

mad everyone has stated already, it depends on your employment contract.

Should be in the employment contract - when I was a nanny and worked for a QC I had bank hols off as it suited my employer but my nanny friend worked for a consultant doctor so she mostly worked them as they were often still in hospital on many bank hols.
