I am currently a stay at home mum to 1 two and a half year old. I have loved being at home with her and now need to supplement the families income, and have decided that i would love to childmind. Does anybody have any advice loaclly? I am in Sunderland and am lucku enough to have a large house, so feel i have space etc. Any advice from anyone would be much appreciated

I would find out how much of a demand their is in your area because i became a childminder for the exact same reason as you and i have not been able to fill my vacancies, the phone doesnt even ring for any enquiries. Im now looking at going back to work because i cant rely on this childminding BS%^*. When i first enquired everyone told me there was so much work.. ye whatever.. I know a lot of childminders who are struggling.
I dont even know if its worth the effort to be honest, they now wanting so much paperwork from childminders i dont know when you will be able to play with the children.

Yes i would say so, you should also check how many cm's there are in your area, you can look on www.childcarelink.gov.uk put in your postcode and ask for childminders and at the bottom it will say with immediate vacancies you can get a feel from there how much demand there is i would say. I hope it better you than it has been for me

Ask for a list of childminders in your area from your Surestart/Early Years team at your council. You could then, phone around as a prospective parent and research things that way.

Top tip of the week though, has to be DON'T look for advice in the Staff Room, we are clearly too busy to discuss such trivia when we should be stimulating other peoples children 100% of the day!

Do pop in though really, we'll do our best to help wherever and whenever we can!
