How much do ad hoc daytime babysitters charge?

I'm looking for an ad hoc babysitter to look after my baby at my flat, while I will still be at home, for a few hours a week. I will still be around to do the main things like give her solids, but she may need to change the odd nappy or give her a bottle. The main thing is to just keep her entertained for an hour or two while I have to do something, at home. How much do you normally pay a babysitter per hour? And is the price effected by the fact that I will be at home, so she or he will more just be keeping her amused for a couple of hours, rather than providing full on care? Thanks.

I charge £12 per hour, it doesn't matter whether it's sole charge or you are in the house as it's still my time. I look after up to 2 children for the basic rate then £3 for each extra child up to 4 (max 2 under 2's, 3 under 5's 4 under 12's). I've had non stop demand since I launch my adhoc nanny service including enquiries for overnights and a fortnight (turned those down)

I'd guess £12-15 an hour.

I think it’s got to be at least £10 an hour. Depends who’s doing it really. Bit of a difference between a professional with childcare qualifications paying tax/insurance etc, and a 15yo trying to earn a bit of extra pocket money.

It will depend heavily on who is doing the babysitting (age/experience/qualifications) and where you are (London, much more pricey than Newcastle for example).

I would charge £15ph weekdays and £20ph weekends, minimum three hour booking (experienced nanny, London).

I charge £14 in West Surrey/Berkshire border, with a 3 hour minimum.
You being at home at the same time might mean baby wants you, won't accept bottle from me, so I may well take them out for a walk, go the park/playground, do something so you can get on with things and baby can get used to me.
You being at home makes no difference to cost.

I charge £12ph but long overdue a payrise. Experienced nanny. You being in the house can make it harder so like PP I would try to get out to the park.

What sort of times are you wanting?

if you can do it after school weekends it's a nice job for a teen. Depends where you live I suppose, but I wouldn't pay less than £8 per hour.

I had a lot of work like that from about 11 (next door) then also babysat for those families (& others) from 13. But that was in the dim dark sges when teens were expected to be capable & responsible. LOL

Teens who want to look after babies/children are lovely with them when given the chance!

If you need times a teen couldn't do, I'd expect to pay £15 ph (maybe area dependant?! Also depends on their situation.

Babysitting I class evening work and child in bed /ready for bed

You need childcare

Whether a younger teenager as you are about or a qualified nanny

As someone else said. My price is the same whether parents are there or not. It's still my time
