Can you use 30hrs childcare to pay a nanny?

Hi,

My 2 year old twins have had a nanny 2 days a week (when I'm at work) for the last year. They won't be eligible for the 30hrs until next January, but already we're starting to think about what we'll do. Does anyone know if you can use the 30 hrs to pay a nanny? She is Ofsted registered. We like the idea of sending them to preschool but they have such a lovely relationship with their nanny, it breaks my heart a little to think of that coming to an end! In an ideal world they'll continue to have their nanny for 2 days and a day or 2 at preschool.

Thanks in advance :-)

No.

You can use Tax Free Childcare to pay a registered/approved nanny but you cannot use the 15/30 hour funding.

The funding is around £4 per hour so it would not be viable for most nannies.
DfE would not consider it as anyone can call themselves a nanny.

Also bear in mind that the 30 hours is only during term time (38 weeks of the year). You may find a nursery that will split the total hours over 52 weeks, but you won't get 30 hours X 52 weeks.
