I don’t know what I need!

i don’t know what I need and would be really grateful for advice from others in the same situation! I am a working mum, married with two children. My husband works away three days a week and we have always been able to manage me also needing to be away for work by my husband swapping days or calling on family for help. In 6 months time my husbands job is changing such that he will be away 5 days a week. I am also in the running for a promotion at work which means that I could also be away a bit more. Our parents are getting older, and don’t live close by so we are seriously considering what help we need. Kids are currently in nursery/after school club until 6pm.

perhaps a nanny that works 3 til 8, so could do school pick up, feed the kids help with homework, run them to activities and help with evening routine. Would a nannies do overnight stays to help on occasion when I need to be away? (Being away is not fixed days, it’s ad hoc) suppose one to ask at interviews.

could also definitely do with some help more help around the house…I have a cleaner at the minute but could definitely do with more hands on (ie changing beds, running errands)

Nanny, housekeeper, a hybrid of the two?

would be grateful to hear from anyone in a similar situation and what worked for them.

please no judgey replies, genuinely looking for helpful advice!

Thanks

I think you've answered your own question, sounds as if you know what you need, and sounds sensible to me. Good luck.

We had a nanny/housekeeper hybrid when I was growing up and it worked well. I guess you'll probably have to pay someone full time and probably pay a premium for going beyond 6pm regularly because the hours are quite anti-social.

Thanks, am new to all this so didn’t know there might be a premium after 6pm. Good to know.

Advertise both. Nanny /nk and see what you get

A nwoc May be more flexible

Most nannies don't like or want to clean

Will cleaner change beds if you pay for longer /extra

Working till 8 is restricting

Yes most will stay the odd night over - paid obv

If you have space a live-in nanny or au pair could be a good option.

I think you'll struggle to find a nanny who will want to do those jobs/those hours, but a nanny-housekeeper or mother's help could work.

I would advertise the job and see what sort of replies you get and discuss with individuals what they're are/aren't willing to do.
