I am going to need my three dc cared for for up to 7 days at a time, overnight, while I am away. I have never employed anyone in this capacity before but the need has arisen now that I have become a lone parent and am getting back to work.

My work involves overnight stays and I need a nanny/childcarer to 'be the parent' while I am away. There is also the possibility of me needing this type of cover to take care of a sort holiday I may be planning.

I'd really love some advice and info on how to go about filling such a vacancy and on rates, etc. The dc are all at school or nursery for all or half the day.

If you think you can offer advice or might be interested or know somebody who could be please CAT me or reply here.

The work is in St Albans, Hertfordshire btw!

Thanks.

Hi, I live in St Albans and I am a childminder. I also offer flexible care. Not sure whether I could help or not, my DH works away Monday to Friday, so have evenings available but you can email me on [email protected] if you want to chat about it.

As a nanny, I have done full-time 24 hour care for a 2 week period, while the parents went on holiday. It was many years ago (must be at least 10 years ago) and I can't recall how much it cost the family.
These days for 24-hour care you would be looking at £150 plus expenses (for outings and that sort of thing). Just overnight (say 7pm to 7am), I would do for £100. I am not very near you, so can't help you, but this should give an idea as to likely cost.

A childminder (who would care for your children, at their [the childminders] home) would probably cost less, though fees are usually per-child and not all childminders are registered to provide overnight care, plus those who are may not be able to accommodate 3 children. Finding a childminder who lives near you and who can provide overnight care may be hard - though sounds like Alibubbles may be able to help you

Hmmm...thanks Nick. That is helpful although scary. I woudl have to look at approved carers at those rates - not that I find them unreasonable iyswim?!

There's an agency called Universal Aunts that offer proxy parenting - www.universalaunts.co.uk

Be warned, they're quite posh - real Mary Poppins stuff! Lovely though, I've met several girls that work through them.
