Birth cert number

Hi all,
Hoping someone can shed a little light. I’m in the process of filling out a child benefit claim form (1 teen aged 14). He moved in with me from his moms end of October 2022 for the long term. It was only recently a friend told me I could claim child benefit. So, after a quick check…turns out I can! Who knew! (Not me) 😂
On the form, page 5 Ques 39 (Born in England). It asks for a ‘9 digit system number’? The birth cert I have is a certified copy of an entry (I had to get one to apply for his passport).
The only letters/numbers on the cert are in the top right….but these total 11 (Five letters then six numbers) EG: ABCDE 001234
However the form only has 9 boxes! 😭 Having been on hold today with HMRC without getting through (They’re busy, that’s fair enough).
I just thought I’d come on here and hopefully find help. 😃
Thanks in advance all
Darren

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I tried googling but can't seem to work it out. I'd maybe contact the registrar of births?

According to google imagea it's right down at the bottom in the left hand corner on a certified copy

Good shout, thanks, I’ll try that 👍🏻

Unfortunately nothing at the bottom left, thank you though, appreciated 🙏🏻

It's usually the district number, then the year of birth, then the entry number.

BambinoBlue · 17/01/2023 08:43

It's the system number and it's in tiny tiny numbers at the bottom left of a full certified copy.

Are you looking at a "short certificate" instead?

ArnoldBee · 17/01/2023 08:47

The birth cert number thing is for new registrations not 14 year olds. Its to save you sending in the birth cert!

Danikm151 · 17/01/2023 10:10

I think this is only for newer birth certificates since they went to a digital system.
you may have to send a copy in

No, it should be on for a 14 year old.

BambinoBlue · 17/01/2023 10:11

OP, is it hand written?

They didn't have the 9 digit system for 14 year olds. I know this as I have a 14 year old and a copy of their birth cert. However my gran daughter born in 2022 does have a 9 digit number that was sent in so her parents didn't have to send in her birth cert.

According the NHS the birth notification service started in 2015.

I'm not only a registrar but I have a 14 year old whose BC has a system number on 😆

I'm going to ask in the office though actually as it's possibly linked to different areas as to when it moved to digital, and now I am interested. My own teen's birth certificate definitely has it on though.
