Hi! I have a 3 wk old and to start with he didn’t mind being put down and would sleep in his crib/cot but over the last couple of days he’s been really unsettled with being put down he only settles when he’s laying on me but before he was fine and would sleep in his cot/crib for 3-4 hours at a time before he would stir for a feed just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same! Didn’t get any sleep last night due to him not wanting to be put down so slightly worried he’s going to not sleep at all during the night when I try to get some sleep (his cot is by my bed)

Yeah, they do that. Pretty normal. Try swaddling and loud white noise

SalviaOfficinalis · 12/01/2023 16:10

Yes, sorry, they do this. Keep trying to put him down asleep. A dummy might help.

DanniHazelH · 12/01/2023 16:13

We have something that plays white noise which usually works haven’t tried swaddling him at night but usually when we try wrapping him up he starts getting frustrated think he quite likes having his arms and legs free to wave around 😂just seems odd that it’s all of a sudden

I do try but as soon as I move and put him down he wakes up again and he also keeps spitting dummy out or has it in for a minute then spits it out again

This is totally normal. Either look into safe cosleeping or sleep in shifts with your partner. It won't last forever.

Thanks for the replies guys I’ll try everything you’ve all suggested ☺️

Use a warm wheat pack placed in cot to trick him into thinking he's still on you then as he settles remove it.

MeinKraft · 12/01/2023 17:23

Yeah this is when they start to realise you've put them down and get pissed off about it. I used a purflo nest - the lullaby trust doesn't recommend anything in the cot but it was that or fall asleep when standing up holding her or driving or something.

Mine did this and nothing worked. She slept on my chest for a few nights and then was happy to go back in her cot.
I was knackered but I got through it.
