Early Years funding

Hi everyone. I'm new to mumsnet and trying to get some feedback about early years. Just recently, everyone has been talking about 'childcare' rather than early years, and I'm wondering what people expect when their children go to nursery. Is it just somewhere to drop the kids while you work, or are you looking for something else?

Well, some people need people to care for their dc when they are at work. I'm not sure anyone would say that is " just somewhere to drop the kids" - that sounds rather emotive, like you have an 'angle' ?

Other people don't take their dc to Nursery until they are older, as they don't need childcare. Once they get older there are a few reasons people take their dc to Nursery - many (most?) to learn to share / take turns / play with other children. Some because the Nursery will be able / willing to do loads more activities and give the dc more opportunities than they would do at home.
Some dc go to Nursery because their parents or cares are struggling for one reason or another. Some go to expand their language. Some go to expand their experiences.

All registered Early Years providers in England....school nursery, private nursery, preschool or childminder provide early years education. They all have their curriculum and have to demonstrate to Ofsted how they support learning. All work to the EYFS framework to support children reaching the Early Learning Goals at the end of Reception.
