Best double buggy you have used when minding ?

Hi everyone,
I am thinking of buying a new double buggy from ebay, but wanted a few opinions first. Checked the mumsnet reviews, but there are none for the buggy I am interested in, which is the cossato tandem, where it looks almost like a single buggy, as back seat is raised slightly. I use a bog standard side-by-side umbrella fold buggy at mo, which I liked to start with as it was much narrower than any I had had before. However ds(8 mo) and mindee (2yr) look completely stuffed in and uncomfortable in it. In fact ds hates it, comapared to his usual single buggy I use when not minding. I don't drive so a double is a must, and our town is very small, old fashioned, touristy, so narrow streets etc, little shop doorways.
I just want the two of them to look as comfy as possible, and wondered what other minders have found best to suit two children of these ages ? I worry cos I walk everywhere, they are in there a lot and need to be comfy and happy.
Thanks in advance, I don't want to bid on anything in case I make a mistake !

can't say from personal experience (not yet anyway!) but the double I want to get and have been persuaded by people on here is the Marco Sky! Apparently it's great and you can fit a buggy board on the back too!
Think it's Shoshe that is getting two of them to clip together so she's a good one to give you an informed opinion!

ROSEgarden · 29/01/2008 20:55

i heard(dont tell shosh) from a girl in pram shop, they didnt rate they marco sky???..ive got a tandem graco something or other..its faberoony!

ROSEgarden · 29/01/2008 20:56

cossatto are supposed to be excellent..i would if i could have afforded!

chankins · 29/01/2008 20:57

Ooh that was the only buggy like the one I want on mumsnet reviews and it didn't get great reviews. I don't mind how heavy or cumbersome it is or anything like that, I just want both children to be comfy, with enough space. Thanks for replies. Will wait a bit longer before I brave ebay!

o cool its the cossato I like the look of and there are tons on ebay. Just need to really justify money spent on yet another buggy to poor dh !

Just had a look at the cossato and it does look nice and as you say, lots of them on ebay!!
I am in the same position needing to justify it to dh! If I can get another mindee then I'm definitely getting something like that!

eleanorsmum · 29/01/2008 21:05

i have a marco sky that i've just started using. both mindees (10mth and 16mth) hated it at first BUT then i removed the hood and binog they can both see and love it! it's so easy to manouver, quite lightweight yet strong and buggy board fits fr dd (3). handles are a little high for me (5foot2) but i'm getting used to it. not sure what to do when it rains, think kids will have to have rainsuits on! lol!

chankins · 29/01/2008 21:23

Thanks eleanorsmum - good to know a buggy board fits on, as dd2 not 4 yet and very little, so will need to hop on at times.
So much to consider !
But looks like im veering towards the cossato. At least I can tell dh I have researched the subject thouroughly! And I am not just wasting more money on buggies !

DO NOT BUY A MARCO SKY!!!!!!!

cr*p customer service. they fall apart!!!! My friend has gone through two in 8 months. They fell apart, screws flew off in the street. Safety harnesses on both buggies have come unstitched.

They are great to begin with but don't last long.

You have been warned

alibubbles · 30/01/2008 13:00

I got rid of my marco sky, a double Maclaren, a single Maclaren and bought a Phil and Teds, - said I never would, but is absolutely brilliant, single mode or double, it is so versatile, easy to pack into the car, easy to push etc.

I am so pleased with it I might trade up to the new sport version with reclining rear seat, but mine is less than a year old, so can I justify it!

Booh · 30/01/2008 13:37

I am bout to get a P&T after going through...............are you ready for this

A maclaren side by side (to heavy to lift in/out car)
A graco stadium (too heavy to push)
A marco sky (to heavy to push and handle too high)
An XTS twister double (too heavy to lift)
and at the moment I have an out n about nipper,

I want to have ONE buggy that I can use for everything and I hope that the P&T is it!!!

'cause at the moment I am always moving a buggy in the car, out the car, in the garage etc etc etc

shoshe · 31/01/2008 07:27

Sory but I've had my Marco, for 8 months now, never had athing go wrong with it, and LOVE it, I have had soooooooooooooo mant doubles over the years and this is by far the best.

nappyaddict · 31/01/2008 08:36

my friend is a cm and uses this

mogs0 · 31/01/2008 12:21

I had a P&T and thought it was such a fab buggy for me as a cm because you can change it from single to double so easily. Also, I could get a buggyboard on the back but it was a bit of a stretch, fine for occasional use.

I sold mine to a friend because I was moving and wanted one less thing to move. Secretly, it was because I wanted to upgrade to the sport!!!!!

I've also used the urban detour which is by far my favourite double but hard to get around shops/narrow pavements etc.

Finally, for two babies, I loved the jane powertwin. Slightly heavier to push than the P&T but definately comfy for both passengers.

Get ebaying and find a bargain!!!!

badgerhead · 31/01/2008 12:51

I have the P&T it is definitely fantastic, So versatile to use as a single or double & great to push, especially if you remember to keep the tyres inflated lol!

nappyaddict · 31/01/2008 13:15

the mutsy is also one that can be used as both as single and a double.

lunavix · 31/01/2008 13:16

I had a P&T which bugged me, and is quite costly for just mindees.

I have a graco duosport which I love, it's easy to push even if one mindee is much bigger than the other, it's this one here I'd say 3 is the total age limit for it though, but then I make mine walk You need a huge boot to fit it in though.

Marco sky def good but can be quite hard to push as most tandems are.

Having said that my friend just bought a tandem off ebay brand new, total bargain and apart from slightly old fashioned fabric it's really good here it's no name and long but really good accessories and easy to push

Don't get this it's horrid to push

Ineedaholiday · 31/01/2008 13:47

ive got a jusonne othello tandem and its horrible to push, flimsy and handles are too high .
I hardly ever use it and just use my ds's quinny 4xl with 2 yr old mindee standing on edge of metal basket. I love that pram.

candifloss · 01/02/2008 14:14

i have a cosseto i am selling it wont fit in my car and i use a maclaren cannot beat em

alison222 · 01/02/2008 18:17

I have an out and about nipper. I have one of the old ones without the swivel front wheel. The newer ones are easier to push but,the brakes are different -one long bar across the back- mine has individual brakes on each back wheel so I can get a buggy board on the back if needs be, and It has a hand brake for whan you are waiting to cross the road and it stips the front wheel moving - also lost from the latest version

Hope this helps

southernbelle77 · 02/02/2008 10:58

How small does the phil and teds fold up? Would it fit into the back of a zafira if all 7 seats are being used?

vInTaGeVioLeT · 02/02/2008 13:07

i have a really HORRIBLE double buggy never ever buy one!!! it's the century red/black one - like in the thrd link on lunavix's post
i had to send one back as it started to fold it's self up while i was pushing two toddlers in it i had to tape it up took them ages to replace it so i had to buy a 2nd hand one from a c/m friend - so now i have 2 i don't like!!!! luckilly i hardly have to use a double now but if i have another little one to mind i will have to get a new funky one maybe a phil&teds

southernbelle77 · 02/02/2008 15:19

I have that dreadful Century one too! It is by far the most god awful contraption I have ever used and I will not be using it for much longer! Just need to convince DH that spending the money on a P&T is worth it

vInTaGeVioLeT · 02/02/2008 17:56

listen to me southernbelles DH - a decent pushchair is a tool of the trade!!

mumlove · 02/02/2008 18:22

southernbelle77 - a p&t does fit in the back with all the seats up but you need to take off the back wheels.
