Tax free childcare entitlement if spouse is medically retired

Hi everyone,

I’ve searched the internet high and low and cannot find the answer to my question so I’m hoping someone might be able to help!

We currently have a 14 month old and use tax free childcare. My husband has just had it confirmed he will be medically retired from January (it’s a private pension and he has MS)

When looking through the eligibility information ot states both parents must be working but then has things like if you’re receiving sick pay it still counts.

I understand that both parents need to be working to be eligible for it, however has my husband has been medically retired he is medically unable to look after our daughter full time so we need to use nursery.

I understand it’s a very unique situation but I just wondered if anyone else had any experience?

We are taking a significant financial hit for the retirement (worth it for his health) but if we have to pay all the childcare it’s even worse.

thank you!

From what I read Tax free is not depended on both parents income, as single parents can claim it. It’s the 30 funded hours you get from from the term after your child turns 3 you may not be eligible for if your partner is not working

Thanks @Apple42 let’s hope so 🤞 I think I’m going to have to give them a ring and see what they say
