absolutely horrible experience with MyTamarin agency. avoid at all cost

Absolutely horrible experience with my Tamarin. See below the email we have sent. To which we have been offered, not a refund but the possibility to extend our search for 4 months. As you can imagine it is not really possible for full-time working parents to take care of 2 babies on their own until Mytamarin finally finds a candidate. Extremely poor value for money. We have spent 6k on a nanny that 1/ traumatised our babies 2/ quit after 2 weeks 3/ had not been properly referenced checked.

e appreciate the terms and conditions have been created to protect MyTamarin from abusive use of your time. However, we would argue that the present situation is slightly different and does not support the spirit of both the conditions and good service, or ‘The myTamarin difference’.

While X’s departure was indeed inconvenient, there have been further issues during her time with us which have left us extremely uncomfortable, to say the least. We have had for example, a toddler refusing to wear a jumper or anything covering her head or to eat hot food for weeks after her departure, due to accidents directly caused by her lack of care. I must say, I take partial responsibility for not questioning the fact that one of her references refused to speak to us, as I should have understood that something may have happened there as well.

To address your point that we have been sent 7 candidates, the following is the reality:

A: great experience, barely available for a chat unless we were free after 9pm – proved too difficult to pin down in the time required.

B: Came as a temp, accepted a permanent role after 4 days, refused to work unless offered a permanent position, having appeared keen to do so. Left us with nothing at the start of week 3 of no nanny.

C: Told us during the interview that parents shouldn’t work from home and we should be talking to a specialist (?!) if we didn’t agree with her.

In parallel, due to your inability to source a suitable candidate and the fact that the Temp didn’t work, we have had to reach out to another agency. As you will know, it is not possible to hold multiple nannies in waiting whilst trying to maintain work; as one candidate proves unsuitable at trial or interview, the next is not automatically still available at the time needed. In addition, multiple trials with multiple nannies is not sustainable for the children so we were forced to seek more suitable and accessible options whilst assessing those provided by you. Furthermore, due to the number of days off we both had to take to ensure care of our daughters and trials/interviews, we both started having issues at work and the children have been extremely unsettled. We would like to point out that the boutique agency sourced amazing candidates (all more than 15y of experience) in less than a week, many of which were immediately available and close.

Again, we do understand the T&Cs but it is obvious that the amount paid for X (around 6k) is completely disproportionate considering:

  1. Her incompetence and subsequent lack of professionalism coupled with the fact that she only worked for 2 weeks.

  2. The inability to source a suitable replacement in a reasonable amount of time.

  3. The failure of the temporary nanny to cover the time required.

  4. The fact that in the 4 weeks that we have not had a full-time nanny, those provided by you have only been able to cover 4 days and only one has been able to trial.

Coming back to the ‘myTamarin difference’, we do not feel that we have received ‘value for money’ (a ‘success-based fee’ should reflect actual success for example), it is obvious that ‘curation for attitude’ is not as good as it should be, as is ‘matching based on lifestyle and values’ and the ‘availability check’ seems to have been incorrect for several candidates.

While you may not be the right person to take things further with, we would appreciate if you could direct us to someone who can do so.

£6k wow

why didn't you use a local reputable nanny agency

swedex · 04/11/2022 19:31

What was the £6k for? An introduction? Monthly fee?

underneaththeash · 04/11/2022 20:11

have you paid already? Just take them to small claims.

Bumzoo · 04/11/2022 21:06

I'd be a bit wary of any nanny available immediately.

Agency fee for hiring a nanny through them. Nanny that quit 2 weeks after.

That’s what we are looking to do as we have paid when she started

Actually the one we have at the moment is a temp, so she was available at short notice

Seems like a lot of money, but your post doesn't make clear why the nanny quit/ was sacked so soon, or what the agency has done / what its t&c require it to do, in these circumstances.

Must be very frustrating though that you have no reliable childcare cover for a prolonged period.

ZooMemories · 04/11/2022 23:07

Why would you go through a company that is basically saying "My Monkey" ???

It thought it was quite clear personally.
the nanny quit after 2 weeks
the T&C say “ whatever happens we will not pay back but can try to find a replacement “
what has been done to find a replacement: not much

Really ? No agencies near you at all but somehow my Tamarin. managed to find you a nanny you were happy with

you didn’t look on nanny job or childcare.Co.uk or gumtree

ask about on local fb

tbh I wouldn’t have signed those terms. Sure all the agencies I’m with would give a refund if nanny left in 2w if couldn’t find you a replacement

why did she leave. What were her reasons. Dud she not get paid as assume you would have paid her monthly

I find your message slightly odd and a bit aggressive to be honest.

  • no , I don’t look for nannies on Gumtree
  • i had looked on childcare and couldnt find any
  • she left after a series of mistakes that hurt my children. Then cried, then the day after she quit, and that was that.
  • she has been paid, as people are obviously paid for work done
  • any other agency I agree would have refunded. We are now working with a smaller agency and the service is different .
the point of my message is not to get into the rabbit hole of who did what, why didnt you check gumtree or whatnot ( as what is done is done) but more to draw attention to a big agency that presents themselves as premium while giving absolutely appalling service. That’s it.

Nanny agencies are utterly useless in my experience. We had a similar situation many years ago.

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/11/2022 14:00

I guess as none of the nannies or maternity nurses I know including myself would work and find jobs via my tamarin

we would always use agencies or Fb or childcare care

what area are you in ? Are you in the middle of Nowhere iyswim

Hi there,
Sorry to hear of all your problems in finding a nanny. I'm a nanny myself and every time I hear of a nanny who has been dismissed for negligence or any other sort of trouble it makes me so mad and is another bad mark against hiring nannies who like myself are professional, fabulous and dedicated.
I recently did the whole agency rounds when finding my new job and found that some are better than others. I was sent for a few jobs by a couple of agencies who hadn't even checked my references when I turned up at parents doors for interviews. It left me feeling really uncomfortable as parents were obviously putting their trust in these agencies to send capable, vetted nannies and paying agency fees. Luckily I'm sane Wink and have a very good cv and fully checkable references with names and phone numbers on that I leave with anyone I interview with. I've always done this but more so now as I've seen how some agencies operate.
In my professional opinion the agencies I've listed below were who I found best in terms of questions they asked me about my work history, interests, any problems that had come up in previous jobs and how they were resolved. Also what would be my approach in certain childcare situations, dealing with behaviour etc. They also were quick to phone and check my references by email and sometimes video call and my ex bosses had commented to me on the thoroughness of the questions.
These agencies were -
Tinies
Eden nannies
Hampstead Nannies
I'm sure there are others out there that are great and maybe other people might be able to suggest some to help you out.

Actually whenever i leave my long term position i usually have a couple of months off so then i am available immediately as i am not working so flexible on start date

Chelseacoffee · 07/11/2022 12:06

We had a horrible experience with them a couple of years ago. A housekeeper came for a trial, completely incompetent in cooking, with attitude. After I told my tamarin why she wasn’t suitable I was told off by the manager.

HolidayHappy123 · 08/11/2022 18:58

I don't think those Terms of Business are so unusual. I hired a nanny from one of the agencies recommended above, She didn't work out so we let her go within a couple of weeks. Agency terms provided for them to look for a replacement but no refund.

They sent us various CVs and arranged a couple of interviews but there was no one we clicked with and we ended up recruiting someone from childcare.co.uk. She's been with us over 10 years and the wasted agency fee is a distant memory.

YourPeppyKhakiHedgehog · 21/08/2024 12:57

She quit because the mother was extremely controlling whilst the nanny was trying to work, aggressive in her tone and very manipulative. The nanny in question who made one mistake, which she apologised for profusely and took accountability. The nanny has been in contact with a previous nanny who worked for this family and sadly they also had unpleasant experience with her. The agency myTamarin were extremely supportive and the nanny has been working for a wonderful family since.

Quitelikeit · 21/08/2024 12:59

You hired a nanny when her referee refused a reference!!

BeachRide · 21/08/2024 12:59

Maybe they've improved in the two years since this was posted?

cocoricoconut · 21/08/2024 16:30

I had actually forgotten about this but finding it hilarious you would come back on this post 2y later. For the sake of clarity, it was not one mistake. It was burning a toddler, sitting a baby who doesn't sit on its own and hence bumping her head and then having a total meltdown, no accountability whatsoever.
The part with the other nanny is also ludicrous, especially considering that our previous nanny told us she really wasn't sure of the new one and then helped us when you quit on a Sunday at 9pm.
In any case, glad you have found another family.
