So a teen girl next door is coming over to look after my daughter, who is five, for 4 hours mid week as I’m going out. So 7-11. How much would I pay her?? I’m in the midlands if it makes any difference!

Is she 13 or 19?

Round here it's £10 per hour we are Nottinghamshire
That's why we hardly ever bother it's £50 on the night out before we even go anywhere!!!

blublub · 21/10/2022 14:55

@PrioritiseCalm She’s 16, I wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving a five year old with a 13 year old. She is doing childcare at college.

@OhIdoLike2bBesideTheSeaside Good grief, I earn minimum wage, so at that rate I might take up baby sitting.

I'd say £10 an hour too. But if that's a bit steep maybe offer £30 and see if she's happy with that? Plus snacks and WiFi code 😁

PrioritiseCalm · 21/10/2022 15:07

It's £10 an hour here too.
But, I'd pay a 16yr old less. £7/8

PrioritiseCalm · 21/10/2022 15:08

Deffo plus snacks!

carkerpatridge · 21/10/2022 15:12

I would pay £8 an hour in this situation - she has no travel if she lives next door

blublub · 21/10/2022 18:07

Think I’ll offer £30 plus snacks, thanks everyone!

In my day (mid 90s) a fiver was the norm, I know inflation but surely £5 then isn't £30 now!

Talking a sensible teen for older kids not a childcare professional.

Overthebow · 21/10/2022 18:15

I used to get £20 per evening as teenager. Given inflation since then I'd say £30 plus snacks was fair.

ClocksGoingBackwards · 21/10/2022 18:17

£10ph. But if babysitting opportunities are rare for her she might be happy with £30.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/10/2022 21:59

10ph is more for exper nannies imo

a little over nmw for her age so 4.81 so £5

Itstarts · 21/10/2022 22:01

Early 00s I used to get £20 for an evening. So £30 + I'd have thought nowadays

EmmaStone · 21/10/2022 22:05

£5per hour around here for a teenage babysitter - the rate's not changed since we were using teen babysitters 10+years ago. A friend's daughter has broken the ceiling and charges more, but she's the only one. My daughter has always been delighted with £5/hr (even though she earns more when waitressing), as she says it's easy money.

I think it makes a difference if your DD will be awake and needs stories etc before she goes to sleep, and you only have one child.

I would be very uncomfortable paying less than £30

troppibambini6 · 21/10/2022 22:20

When dd was doing it at 16 (last year) she would charge a flat £30 up til midnight then £5 an hour after midnight on top. Families were responsible for getting her home too which obviously doesn't apply to you.

TinaTeaspoons · 26/10/2022 23:06

I would do £8 an hour with snacks and drinks.
