Hi, can anyone tell me what they pay an assistant gross per hour. How do you work out there net pay? and what happens about sick/ holiday pay etc. I don't charge for my holidays so how would I pay them. Any advice would be very much appreciated.
Just had my numbers increased but not quite sure about how everything works. I am in Bromley, Kent

I would expect that an assistant, as your employee, would need to be paid at least National Minimum Wage (which varies according to their age). Net pay would be calculated by following the procedure in P49. You will need to register with HMRC as an employer and complete PAYE for your employee.
Sickness and Holiday entitlement would need to be as per the contract of employment, which would be based on statutory minimums - think holiday is 4 weeks and 4 days at present, sickness could be SSP.

Bromley Childminding Association may be able to offer advice, given you are in their area - never know someone else local to you may employ an assistant.

24 days paid annual leave is required (I pay 20 plus bank holidays) but my ladies also get 2 week unpaid leave as well

I pay minimum wage & use statutory pay for sickness, maternity, parental/dependant etc leave (incl jury service and TA & stuff like that)

You get a disk from HMRC & it does the P11 for you - then a P35 at the end of the year which is very easy - you need to do P45/6 when he/she starts

I'd register him as a minder - it would be easier
