Lastnight youngest charge was running about and he tripped and whacked his head off a drawer that was partially open. (i was sat on the bed as both of them were running as were doing an "exercise show" for me) I grabbed him and got ice on it right away but he was really pale and gagging like he was going to be sick.

So I thought it better to be safe than sorry with a head injury and took him with his sister to A&E, he was checked over, given painkillers and sent home. (with one of those checklist sheets)

I just feel so guilty now and like such a bad nanny.

Could happen to anyone.

This is why I am obsessive about drawers always being closed once you have finished with them. Drives the kids and my hubby mad but I am always expecting assidents to happen with my lot. Have had numerous hospital visits with the older two.

Hope your charge is okay and you are over the shock now.

What did his parents say? You handled it well imo.

dont feel bad about it....

kids 'bounce'

It was one of those unfortunate accidents and children have lots of those

sounds l;ike you handled the situtaion well and did everything right.

It is horrible when they hurt themselves, BUT it all part of being a child, and they all do these painful things at some point!

I was tearing around the house when I was a kid, fell off the bottom stair and whacked my face on a ottoman that sat at the foot of the stairs.

I had to have stitches, still have the scar 20 years later - it's about 1 inch away from my eye, so it could've been so much worse.

Both my parents were there, believe me there is nothing they could've done, just like there is not much you could've done in the circumstances. Kids hurt themselves occasionally - you did exactly the right thing when it happene, which is what counts. You didn't panic and you got him to hospital - that's not bad nanny behaviour

sounds like you dealt with it all briliantly, nothing to feel guilty about - kids have accidents it's just part of growing up i think! i slammed my fingers in the front door TWICE as a kid my mum was right next to my one time nothing she could've done to stop it really OUCH!!
