Morning all,

I'm doing a First Aid course today, so that's quite a bit like working. 7 hours of fun this Saturday and again next Saturday. I really don't like first aid courses - I'm just not very good at being a casualty, and not great at making small talk with other people (who no doubt will mostly all be female - last time I did the course, I was the only bloke, other than the trainer).

Morning nannynick - I find first aid courses a bit cringeworthy too (for same reasons you mention - except the man part! ), most people seem to really enjoy them don't they?!

I am going to sort out all my outdoor toys today, give them all a good jet wash and get them all together in back garden for littlies. I'm finding it hard o get to playgroups now I have a part timer so I'm thinking I will use my garden more.

Nick, I know how you feel - I hate doing the unconscious person bit. I don't mind helping the unconscious person but the being one bit bugs me. As you are probably already there, hope it went well.

Kay, what fun

You won't believe it but today I am just getting to my taxes. Talk about last minute, but as I only need to worry about November 2006-April 2007 it's easy peasy. Then onto my assignment for my DHC course that's due the 1st Feb. Fun weekend

Morning all. I'm getting my tax return FINISHED today if it kills me!! I also need to phone the Tax credit people to remind them I DON'T WANT TAX CREDITS!!!

ROSEgarden · 26/01/2008 14:08

looneytune · 26/01/2008 14:19

Hiya Rose, where do I start. To top it all, I've just done a thread in AIBU - I haven't done one of those since you know what happened.

ROSEgarden · 26/01/2008 14:24

Hi everyone

I'm trying to write my letter to ofsted but don't know where to start!! Do I just jump right in and say I want a variation and why? could be a long letter!

BoysAreLikeDogs · 26/01/2008 15:56

Hiya Southern Belle

Yes, keep your letter short and sweet, why you require variation and from when.

southernbelle77 · 26/01/2008 16:11

Thanks BALD (lol didn't realise your initials would spell that when I typed it!!).
Ofsted said to write as much detail as I can and given that I'm wanting it for a 'shift worker' mindee so each week is different I wasn't sure how much info to write!
So, I could write the basics that new mindee is coming on a shift basis. Longest working week would mean me having them for 2 full days and 3 half days and the shortest working week would be 2 half days and therefore there will be probably be 6 weeks of 8 weeks when it would not put me over my numbers. Gosh, does any of that even make sense?? [very confused emotion]
Also, is it worth me stating that dd is at preschool 4 sessions a week and at grandparents 1 full day a week?
And, as I do not have a start date yet, should I just put one in say 2 weeks time so that ofsted push this through and I don't have to lose another mindee if at all possible?
Shouldn't have to worry about this at a weekend but need to get it done asap!

nannynick · 26/01/2008 16:15

Southernbelle - keep it very matter of fact.
Title the letter clearly eg. Variation Request for 4 Under 5's
Bullet point things if you need to - this helps make it clearer.

Well first day of First Aid course is now over. Had same trainer as 3 years ago. Second day of First Aid is next Sat, when it will be a different trainer. As ever things have changed since 3 years ago... resus seems a lot easier now, no more remembering different numbers of compressions depending if it is infant, child, adult... plus children are now children for longer, they don't become adults at age 8 anymore... changed to when they get to around 11 years old.

haha yes I am BALD when my slimline name is used lol

Yes, put all the info in about the shift work, point out that DD is in preschool for xxx hours on xx days and at GPs on xxx day, and definately put in a start date. Two weeks seems reasonable

Southernbelle, that does sound rather confusing.

Try setting it out as weekly schedule over say a month period. So the inspector can see how the shift patterns vary. Indicate each day, what age of each child you care for would be - thus ratio can be determined.

Yes, state any additional information, such as that your own DD will be attending pre-school between x time and x time on x days. Plus not even present on x day due to being in care of a relative.

Ideally tell Ofsted a Start Date and End Date. The weekly schedule could be fictional (based on what you suspect will occur over the first month period).

If you can make it less complex, do try... so for example if you know that ratios are fine on say every Mon and Tue, then state that the variation is only needed on Wed,Thur,Fri.
