child care cost

I am thinking of starting up as a childminder, instead of going back to work as a nursery nurse. I have lots of experience in early years foundation stage, both the old and new one. NVQ3 Early Years Childcare &Education and lots of certificets in child development.
How much could I charge? or
How much would you be prepared to pay for this high level of quality care?

To be honest doesnt matter how many qualifications you have (I have a Early Years Foundation Degree, amongst a lot of other qualifications, as well as almost 30 years experience) it really is just market forces and reputation.

Totally depends on what part of the country you're in. Even if you've all the certificates under the sun if you're charging double what other CMs in the area charge you're not going to get any mindees.

how much is the going rate for fees?

Put your post code in here 7 you can find out

IdrisTheDragon · 23/01/2008 17:19

I have no idea what qualifications my childminders have - just know that I trust them completely with DS and DD.

IdrisTheDragon · 23/01/2008 17:23

How do you find out what the going rate is on the childcarelink page (I may well be missing something obvious )?

KatyMac · 23/01/2008 17:35

You put your post code in
choose childminders then look on each C/Mers record to see how much they charge

frannikin · 23/01/2008 17:36

Some childminders put their fees down on the page - it's not compulsory but it gives you an idea.

CIS should be able to tell you the Average Cost charged by childminders in a specific area. KentCIS certainly say they can provide that detail to anyone who enquires - so presumably it is something that the database most CIS use will produce. So worth a call to your local CIS to make initial enquiries - while you are at it, I'm sure they will chat to you about how to become a childminder, courses in your area, that sort of thing.

Note: If in England, Enter your postcode on the Ofsted website - and see how many childminders are registered within a 5 mile radius of your home (with some tweaking of the URL you can get 1 mile radius listing). This can give you an idea of how much competition there is in your area.
