Moving house/childcare

Hi Ladies,

I need some guide on what to do around nursery/childcare etc
My 2 year old(born April) has been at the childminders since she was 1. However we are moving to Essex and not certain of the moving date yet as having renovations done atm, but looking like nov/Dec .
Her childminder is great and has asked for one months notice, however I fear I may be stuck with not having childcare if we move in December as I work full time.

Any suggestions? Do I get an interim childminder that late jn dec once we move or will she be accepted at a nursery that late?most people suggest getting her into a nursery that she can continue with when she is over 5.
Also when do they go off to school? Still don't understand the Uk school programme.

Any help will be appreciated! Thank you.

Confused new mum.

I would take whatever childcare has availability, and look for something you are happy with if you are going to need immediate childcare.

School. She will start in the September after she is 4. You need to apply the winter before - so when she is 3. I think the cut off is 31 Jan for apications, but please check that date as it's been a while since I did a reception application!

Good luck with the move

Have you talked to your childminder about whether she is happy to continue until your moving date? I've just had a family move we knew for 3 months I just took the child as an exception to ratio....we can do this as long as there are never more than 6 under 8s.
Personally id look for a childminder in your new home as a good childminder can see you right through to senior school and beyond doing all school pick ups and holiday cover. They can take 30 hours funding and provide exactly the same as a nursery.

School will be when they are 4.5 as April birthday

so if 2 now. They will go 2024 so apply nov 2023 but pre school will tell you when to do this

are you going for cm or nursery in Essex

are you near a good school and likely to get in due to location and size

some schools are small and one class so 30 places

other are bigger like my dd and 3 class intake so 90 places per year

Thank you all so much. Will apply next year November, very helpful.

We are moving the Brentwood area and lots of nurseries(some with a long waiting list geez:/) but limited childminder full time availability. I have felt more comfortable with CMs since that's what I started with, but now have to consider nurseries, maybe one with a smaller pop and see how we settle in.
Current CM is an angel and wish I could take her with meGrin

In terms of your current childcare I would give notice when you have the date worst case you have to pay a couple weeks over. For new childcare I'd start looking now with a view to booking in for Dec again book for your estimate move date.
