OK remember how I asked about making up bottles & got an interesting response.

I have come up with a system (which I can do practically) do you think it's OK?

2 clean sterilised bottles pour 3oz of cooled boiled water in to each

Microwave one 'til the water is 70 degrees (trial & error but about 60 secs in my M/W)

Add 6 level scoops of powder

Shake well

Add 3 oz of cooled boiled water so it's the right temp to drink

Will that work/be OK?

Not sure but I thought you had to bring the water to 70 for some reason, if only half of it is, is it the same!!!

Bloody stupid ruling if you ask me, what was wrong with parents bringing us, bottles with boiled water in them and just warming them [grumpy face].

KatyMac · 22/01/2008 19:45

The powder has to be at 70 degrees to kill the bacteria

So it is

Whatch think?

My parents have told me not to bother - but I worry - it ust be right

All this thought over baby bottles it's blardy ridiculous!

I take my hat off to you katymac.

I am taking the approach that it is up to a parent how their infants feeds are prepared and I will follow their instructions, and if you want to write that in my ofsted inspection report then please do.

I'm sorry I know that's of no help to you but I do think you are fantastic for trying to get it done correctly. Mission impossible seemed simpler though!

southernbelle77 · 22/01/2008 19:51

I used to that Katy - half microwaved and then topped up to cool it down! Don't know if that was right but the parents did that so I was following instructions!

KatyMac · 22/01/2008 20:46

Oh I don't know - I am not brave enough to try the baby feeding topic again

If its cooled boiled water then it is sterile isn't it? I'd say, yes, thats fine.

I wouldn't do it, I'd abide by the parents rules, but I'm a mavrick CM! I do understand that in your particular setting, its a bit different though, so yes, that sounds good to me.

KatyMac · 22/01/2008 21:41

Shall I try it on that other topic - or just crawl into a hole & give up?

Katy, sorry didn't read your other thread, but I was wondering if you'd contacted ofsted and what their take on this was?

looneytune · 22/01/2008 21:55

Can't help, with Mo on this one and do what the parents insist they want

KatyMac · 22/01/2008 22:01

OFSTED - keep telling me they are not an advisory body [grr]

OP posts:
hennipenni · 22/01/2008 22:10

Oh, that makes sence doesn't it? It is actually something that they could all agree on for a change. I'm afraid I would go ahead with whatever the parents want you to do if at all possible. And I will add that question to my ever growing list to ask when they eventually get found to contacting me again to arrange my inspection. (got the short notice in Dec, still waiting for them to get back in touch)

KatyMac · 22/01/2008 22:20

I wish they were advisory

I would like proper advise

I am a wuss

this is what i do when going to toddlers:
take a bottle of boiling water wrap in tin foil to keep warm
get a tub (from motercare) and measure out corret amount of powder and put in tub

at toddler group if the water has cooled to much re-warm in jug of water (quicker to warm water only) then add powder shake and serve
