Legal holiday entitlement in the UK

Nanny Nick and anyone else up on the latest links to the latest info please come and enlighten me.

I'm working out the final entitlement for current nanny. She thinks she has a few holidays left (which is a bugger, but I think she is probably right).

Did the entitlement go up in October? And isn't it due to go up again?

Went up to 4.8 weeks (ie 4 weeks and 4 days) in October for fulltime workers, due to go up to 5.6 weeks.

If she has paid bank holidays off as well as her 4 weeks holiday at the moment then I think you are compliant already (that's what the extra 8 days are for).

So, if I hire a nanny for a six month period in which there are not many bank holidays is the monthly holiday entitlement still the same?

Or is the entitlement now 20 hols plus bank hols?

IT'S 24 days a year - so 12 in 6 months

Entitlement for a f/t person is 24 days, which can include bank holidays, that's up to you.

Monthly that obviously works out as 2 days a month, you shouldn't penalise her if less bank holidays happen to occur during her time with you. 12 paid days off during her time with you, which can include any bank holidays during that time if you prefer.

I think it's 24 days including bank holidays.

Oh, and the plans which were discussed a couple of years ago about a further increase have been shelved now.

hi
I am a childminder and have a customer whom is disbuting her contract that she sirned saying i had 20 days holiday excluding bank holiday per calander year she now says that i can not do that as i need to accur holidays but that would not work as children start with you at diffent times of the year so you would never really get any time off i explained before any contract is sirned that the 20 days are taken between jan and dec and i let them have notice for f them well in advance i have been doing it this way for 5 years and never had a problem before im am sure she can not just change her mind on the contract hence as she sirned it which means sehe agreed to everything on it right?
also she was very rude and abuse to me making threats which made me feel uneasy about having her daughter again as i could be leaving myselve wide open to her making alsorts of aligations against me sao told her that i did not like her atitude and her contract was canceled with out notice and no mony would be returned ( i do finsh this job next week any way ) does any one know were i stand please help...

You terminated the contract, so the parent can no longer use your service. If you had notice periods written in the contract, ideally those should be stuck to, but if you felt the situation merited immediate termination, then so be it. The parent can take legal action against you if they so wish... due to not being given the termination notice period (if such a period existed in the contract).
If the parent begins legal action, then give your insurers legal helpline a quick call to see what their view is. If the parent is in credit - paid you already for service you have not yet provided - then you may find that your legal advisor will suggest returning that money.
