Will my baby settle??

Hi all,

Just a sad mum looking for some reassurance. My 11 MO baby had her first two full days of nursery yesterday and today and has been inconsolable. She won't sleep there (10 mins all day) and isn't herself.

Today hubby had to pick her up 3 hrs early because she'd got herself into a state. She also came out in a rash yesterday and today but we think that's heat related.

Please tell me this passes. I need talking off a ledge because I'm currently researching nanny shares which I know is stupid!

FTM and feeling very sad and under- prepared about going back to work next week when baby can't even make it through 2 full days.

She will settle ❤️ It took my son around 4 weeks. It was heartbreaking. I genuinely began to consider whether I'd need to give up work because I couldn't handle seeing him so distressed. But as soon as he learnt that mummy or daddy would come back and that he got to have fun and play all day, he settled. It was so, so hard. I feel for you. I hope she settles soon xx

Ps I also only did a week of settling before I went back and I truly wished I'd given myself 2-3 weeks of nursery because I felt so tormented in my first two weeks back, calling up to check if he was okay, wishing the day away so I could pick him up. Next time, I'm going to start the settling in sessions 3 weeks before I am due back in work to allow me that flexibility to pick up earlier if she's struggling.

I promise you he will settle. I would say it takes around 4 weeks or so. My LO would cry inconsolably at drop off, but this stopped after about 4 days and from there it just got better and better! He's been at nursery for 5 months now (he is 17.5 months) and when I drop him off now, he walks in, blows me a kiss, waves and says goodbye.

It does get better. You'll be crying when you drop off for longer than your LO soon.

As others said she will settle - but will take time. May be few weeks. May be few months

9/11mths is often harder as they know who they know

has she ever been away from you before ?

You see, I thought I was being smart and actually did do that. She started settling in about a month ago and started 2 full days a week last week however she got her 1st illness and couldn't actually attend at all last week. So I don't think that's helped. But thank you for your reassurance ❤️❤️

Yea I thought she was going through some pretty severe separate anxiety. I was at work yesterday but when my hubby picked her up, she wouldn't leave his side. When he left her to go for a pee she lost her sh*t and was inconsolable for about an hr.

We've not left her before, no. We have no family or anything so it's been tricky for us to do so but I knew I'd be making a rod for my own back in doing so. You live and learn...And no one else has ever tried to get her to sleep before. Hubby is able to get her to sleep in the day but never at night so I've always done bedtime. Hopefully as she gets older it gets easier xxx

I guarantee in a few months, you'll be posting "my baby runs into nursery without a backwards glance, does she hate me?"

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/08/2022 11:16

They always sleep better at nursery

many list they are rocked to sleep - sleep on me - never sleep in cot - won’t sleep on floor as older

ans then they settle for sleep easily at nursery and lie on mats on floor

How's it going OP?

She honestly will settle, nursery staff work miracles! My son is a real lockdown baby, never been left with anyone, fed to sleep and he goes down within minutes at nursery. It takes time and she might be upset but she is safe there, totally normal for her to be unsettled for a little while. Hope it all goes ok for you x

Well she has managed 1 whole week there. She comes home absolutely shattered because she still can't sleep longer than 20 mins but she's definitely getting better! She now allows the nursery staff to hold her and cuddle her and she reaches out to them when she is dropped off in the morning. Slow and steady ❤️❤️❤️
