London 4 day a week nanny - what is fair

I would appreciate any thoughts. We have a wonderful live in nanny who does 4 days a week for us. She has a nice room in our very nice place which is one of the nicest parts of London ( IMO) and treats the house as her own. She also gets gym membership and holidays with us where we pay daily rates for any overtime she does. It all works well.

However, I have been wondering about whether she might prefer to live out - she is young and got lots of friends here, and I am wondering about putting DS 2 into what is currently her room and how much easier that would be then sharing with DS1 - and if so how much I should pay her.

Currently she gets 200(we then pay tax/nat ins on top) for the 4 days and obviously has no other bills. What would I need to add to make a reasonable wage. She had one years full experience of nannying before she came here. Hours are 7.45 to 7ish,and both my kids nap couple of hours lunchtime plus eldest at nursery every morning. I often give her the afternoon off or she leaves to go out earlier - we have a good flexible working relationship. Any ideas?

Somebody I know interviewed a 24 year old
nanny (no qualifications) with experience who wanted £500 a week net for 4 days.. I would have thought anywhere from £70 net per day was the norm in London.

As a live out nanny, she would be doing 45 hours per week and I suspect that £10 per hour Gross would be a reasonable rate of pay, given you are in London. So £450 gross per week, which if nanny has no complicated tax code, is roughly £340 a week take home pay (or about £7.55 Net per hour).

Perhaps compare it to other jobs being advertised. Greatcare and NannyJob both list Daily Nanny Jobs in London. On a brief search I found that they seem to range from £7 to £11 Net per hour. So you would be offering near the bottom of the range, but your nanny does not have that much experience.

Something to consider, could she actually afford to live-out? Are there places she could rent, if you were say paying her £340 per week take home? Does she want to live-out... ask her first, she may not want to be that independent, if she is young.

It depends which part of London you are in, but a full time live out nanny is around £450 per week, net, on average. So I would expect your 4 days to be around £360 upwards net, which is more like £500 - £540 ish gross.

Thank you all for your swift answers! LOVE MUMSNET.
Our nanny is lovely and very good with my little ones but a)i think one year's experience albeit with great refs is not what i could consider a lot of experience and b) i am here 3 days out of 4 so she has only one day sole charge. We effectively co-care for them because my DH works long hours and is not very present during the week. She was quite happy and keen with this when she took the job. I only work 2 days a week - a thursday and my mum is here the other day a monday, so the nanny only has a day when I am out. This is a very different scenario to other friends' situations - 5 days sole charge or indeed 4 days sole charge and not everyone would want it, but she and I get on well.Anyhoo.
You
all make really useful points -particularly the could she afford to live out point. Her previous rent was 60 per week in a shared house which she liked. I was thinking about upping the 200 to 330 net which is sort of where soapbox is - given i also pay for her gym membership - 80 per month, then grossed up to 500-540gross..
