childcare while I'm having the 2nd baby

I'm expecting my second child next month and we need to arrange childcare for my first child while I'm in hospital, preferably for someone to come and stay with her at ours and I would like my child to get to know this person beforehand.

Of course the main problem is that the birth may happen anytime day or night, so ideally I would like someone local to Chiswick, London W4 who would be able to be available for a week or so either side of the due date.

Regrettably there are no grandparents who could come and stay, or relatives nearby that can offer that wonderful unconditional help other families rely upon.

Or can anyone offer some other ideas? Nanny agencies who cater for this type of care? Maybe a retired person or young person studying childcare? Any advice would be greatly appreciated especially if you've been in this position yourself.

many thanks in advance

Where abouts are you?

anyoneoutthere - jae1 is in Chiswick, W4 area.

Temp nanny may be an option, though not sure if they will want to only work at short notice - but if you were to say offer two weeks, thus 1 week either side of your EDD, then that could work, unless you are late giving birth - but in that situation you never know but the person may be able to extend.

Haven't you got any friends with children? obviously they wouldn't be able to come to your own home, but I would always have happily had any of my friend's children overnight in those situations. And haves friends who offered me likewise.

A young person studying childcare may not be appropriate as they might have to go to college/placement and therefore might not appreciate being woken up and asked to come over at short notice! I don't know what age your dd is or what childcare arrangements you have during the day but if that person has to go to college/placement what are they supposed to do with your dd during the day. Obviously if it's a weekend then you're okay but otherwise?

Jae1

Im a temp nanny (11yrs exp, crb, first aid etc)based in Ealing so very local to you. When you are due? I may be able to help you. I would be able to stay at yours with your LO while you are at the hospital and would happily visit yours beforehand to get to know you all. (I also do evening babysitting in Chiswick if you ever need it!)
If you are intersted in discussing email me on [email protected]

Regards
Jenna
