Hi there,

A lovely nanny friend of mine has just landed a wonderful job and the family would like her to use her own car.

She is more than happy to do this but needs to know how much she should charge per mile to include everything (wear and tear)...........anyone?

thanks

my allowance for my job is 40p per mile all inclusive, if that helps

try the RAC for figures?

TheYoungVisiter · 17/01/2008 14:21

I don't know what the going rate is for nannies but my employer pays 38p per mile (to include everything inc petrol etc).

Make sure her insurance covers her for business use - default is leisure and/or commuting which won't cover her.

My nanny employers just gave me a flat rate for petrol etc every week. Can't remember how much it was but remember I used to be able to fill the tank up on it..fiesta. Sometimes I wouldn't use it all but in the holidays I used extra so all kind of evened itself out. They paid the extra for business insurance on my car.

advice from the aa

Millarkie · 17/01/2008 16:31

We pay our nanny 40p per mile - I think that that is a maximum amount or it could end up being treated as a taxable part of salary.

Statutory Mileage Rates from HMRC.

HMRC are looking at if the rates need to be changed. Letter, May 2007, Discussion on AMAPs

More info about AMAPs including what to do if Employer does not pay as much as the AMAP amount.

how cheap of HMRC - petrol has gone up a lot since 2003

we get 40p a mile
I work for a charity but i gather that this is a reasonable rate.
Also check out the difference in what she is paying now in insurance and what she will need to pay extra in order to use the car during the course of her work - school runs or whatever? they should also pay the difference between the two amounts, imo.

This is another reason that i'm quitting as a Home Carer (Social care), is because i can be doing over 30 miles a night but only get paid 18p a mile!!
Yes that's right, less than you get for using a bicycle.

it's only 40p per mile for the first 10,000 miles. It should go down to 28p after that.
