hi.

i'm currently at college doing an N.V.Q
teaching assistant course, but i'd really love to work with babies. c/m seems ideal as you can also be at home for your own children. do you enjoy being a c/m. just like
some advice really.

thank you

Hi talulam.

I've been childminding for a while now, and I love it. I would get advice from your local authority as you do have to go through alot of checks etc. but its well worth considering. One thing to remember, c/m is NOT regular money. Children can come and go at short notice.

Good luck.

I love childminding! I've been doing it just under a year and it's the best decision I've ever made!!

Is there a lot of paper work. PMSL! Afaid so, there is an awful lot of paper work and rules and regulations. It is a very rewarding job though imo. I absolutely love minding. Especially the pre-school ones. There is so much joy to be had from knowing that you shaped their little lives.

shoshe · 17/01/2008 19:13

for the last almost 30 years I have TA'd, worked in Nurseries or Childminded, by far Childminding is the best, this time I have been doing it 7 years, but the 1st time I did it was when Ds was little (he is now 29)
I love childminding.

yes the paperwork has got worse and worse, and have now decided to stop in August 2010, as that is when the children I have now are posted (I live on a Army base).

I have Fibromaygia, and Im getting on a bit {grin] so will then hopefully get something part time, probably looking at something with surestart then.

But I wouldnt have changed the yeasr I have had Childminding for the world.

hi maureenmlove & shoshe i reco your
names from "chat" i don't normally come up here, so i'm on my best behaviour, lol.

thank you for answering me, & yes, i would love to be an important part of a childs life. i think c/m can offer a real closeness
that young children might not get in a nursery.
shoshe, sounds like you deserve a well earned rest! almost 30 years..wow..thats fab!

That's a worry. I hope we're not notorious!

You're right, it is wonderfully rewarding. It does take a few years to really get established though. If you're really keen, get onto your local council and find out about an induction session. You can still change your mind, if its not for you.

FeelingOld · 17/01/2008 20:04

I too love it, the paperwork does get me down sometimes though.
I have some fantastic mindees and parents and I do not have any vacancies at the moment so I am very lucky but it took me about 2 years to get properly established.
I am also part of a brilliant childminding group and we give each other lots of support and advice and I have some lovely childminder friends.

lololola · 17/01/2008 20:14

Talula;

agree with feelingold. its a good idea to join a childminding group, as you gets lots of support and the opportunity to go on days out etc. you really need to get out & about, or c/m can be isolating, just like any other job that involves working from home.

talulasmum · 17/01/2008 20:20

lololola...thanx, defo would join a group, we could meet up for a... c.o.l.a cola

thanx feelingold.

Talulasmum.
hi i'm new here too, but have been c/m for 3 years. i love it. it has changed alot even in the short time ive been doing it, and the paperwork does get me down sometimes. you will have a good qualification, which is great, as all c/m will have to have at least an nvq3 eventually. do i like c/m? yes i love it! well worth the paperwork.

ive read this thread, and you seem to have a great sense of humour which you will need if you go into c/m!

good luck.
