Sleeping arrangements at Childminders

Trying to find a childminder for my 10 month old. I know I'll have to compromise on some things but I've seen a few where all the children sleep in the same room that they play in. Is this normal? At home ds is pretty good at getting himself to sleep, I just can't picture him doing it with other little ones trying to settle themselves/ waking up at different times.

Any thoughts or experiences about how it works?

Thanks

Hi I am a registered childminder, there are a few of us on here. I have a travel cot which can be put in one of two kids bedrooms (I use the one with a blackout blind).

Most childminders will be happy to do this as long as their upstairs is registered with Ofsted to use for childminding. Just add it to your list of questions to ask each childminder, I'm sure you will find the one for you!

i'm a childminder and my children sleep in the travel cot in my room, on the sofa in the front room and one goes in their pram in the hall

normally the three children i have all go to sleep at the same time and wake at the same time so i could in pratise let the children sleep in the play room but while they are asleep i'm normally tidying the toys and sorting them and getting new toys out for the after school children

Where abouts are you tatty33? Maybe one of the minders on here can help you, I have vacancies at the moment!

I have a 17 month old mindee who sleeps in a travel cot in my bedroom. I have the baby monitor on and check on her regularly.

I also have my own 17 month old who sleeps at the same time in her own room. I understand exactly what you are saying because my DD is VERY good at settling herself off to sleep but no way would she be able to in a room with other children!

I'm a registered childminder too and I use a travel cot in the spare room. When I have two mindees that need to sleep at the same time then one of them sleeps in the pushchair (either in another bedroom or in the hall depending on when he falls asleep - and with the parents approval).
DD used to go to nursery and they all used to sleep in the same room there (also where they played). I thought it strange to start with, but it seemed to work!

Same here, travel cot in one of the bedrooms upstairs, and I have another cot in my daughters room. I couldn't imagine putting a baby to sleep where everyone else plays..

Well I have a quiet room in which i have 5 cots but I do childmind a bit differently

Each child goes down and the next child doesn't go into the cot until the first child is asleep

I have had 7 asleep at once - 5 in cots, one in a boucy chair and one in my arms - that was a very quiet afternoon

Yes agree with others - make sure you ask each cm what they do, and tell them what you prefer. I have always just followed parents wishes when it comes to sleeping. So some have been put up at specific times to nap in my room in travel cot, while others fall asleep while out in buggy etc. As long as it is ok with parent.

Thanks very much, very useful to hear how it works.

I'm looking for a childminder in Tooting, South London and would love to find someone here!
