Food ideas for baby with allergies

Hello. I wondered if anyone had some meal ideas/baking recipes that don’t contain egg, soya or wheat for an 11 month old. She loves her fruit and veg and is fine with dairy but I’m getting a bit stuck on ideas, and guilty that she can’t eat what the other children/babies are eating!
Thank you

Bolognese with rice.

Dough may be tricky but you could perhaps do a pizza dough using Oat Flour www.nulifefit.com/recipes2/the-easiest-and-healthiest-3-ingredient-oat-flour-pizza-dough

Flapjacks with banana and dates or blueberries. There was a recipe for them on Mumsnet but I can't find recipes anymore. Mumsnet Talk has message threads about them but no actual recipe.

This site is the worst. I had loads of links for egg free paleo meals, egg free whole 30 meals, a link to egg replacement for baking p, a link for baking recipes and it’s reloaded and lost them all Angry

Just google vegan baking - they often use flax seeds as an egg alternative. Though I wouldn’t feel guilty - your daughter has no idea she is missing out on baked goods!

Asda do good free from flour for only 80p which works well in baking, I’ve never used egg replacements but vegans sub various things so you could just try regular baking recipes but use the free from flour and try out the various egg subs. I have used apple sauce instead of egg in a paleo pancake recipe which works amazingly well.

Paleo is generally wheat free, although not necessarily egg free all the time but you could Google egg free paleo recipes.

Thank you so much for the suggestions I really appreciate it! I will look at all the links. Currently waiting to be referred to a dietitian for help too, after a few a&e trips throughout our weaning journey I am now slightly anxious about what to give my little one, but she loves her food!

Some meal ideas
Poached salmon or plaice fillets with mashed potatoes
Home made risotto, chicken is always popular
Cottage pie (savoury mince, vegetables & mashed potatoes) you could also make a chicken version with cornflour to thicken the sauce or a wheat free gravy, or a fish pie using cornflour in the sauce.

Great ideas, thank you!

Maybe post this in the allergy section. Rarher than looking at what she can't eat and trying to recreat it, look at what she can eat.. naturally free from is better - rice, potatoes etc. For treats.. dates, frozen fruit sticks, at 11 months she doesn't need cakes and sugar .

KinderWild · 18/06/2022 11:22

My little one is dairy, egg, gluten and wheat free. Corn crackers are my go to replacement for bread - easy to take out and about too - and avoid using too much rice. You can get chickpea, red lentil and green pea pastas from Tesco/sainsburys/Aldi. Buckwheat is also not wheat so you can use things that contains that.
Cakes is the one area where my little tends to 'miss out' in a like for like replacement. But oat based things like flapjack are a good replacement.
For meals we do Bolognese, chilli, veggie curries, chicken grilled, meatballs (even shop bought ones tend to not have egg in them now), tofu, fish (you can get wheat and gluten free fish fingers/fillets) with potatoes, rice or alternative pasta or sometimes just salad or veg.

To make life easy until you’ve got some professional advice, I’d just make regular recipes but substitute the ingredients that cannot be used.

Learn how to replace egg in regular recipes, you can’t make an omelette with them but it will help a lot:
Flax eggs

Use fortified plant milk such as oat or hemp in place of dairy milk, sunflower or olive spread in place of butter. If a recipe requires hard fat, use Trex. It’s essentially palm oil so not very healthy but ok for occasional use, for example if you want to make pastry.

Vegan cheese isn’t very nutritious but is an easy option if a recipe needs cheese, check the pack carefully for added soya or gluten. Or you can use the more nutritious yeast flakes instead if you are after more of a Parmesan type effect and don’t mind the taste being a bit different.

That you can still use meat and fish makes it all a whole lot easier, and they are probably quite important to include.

ElephantsFart · 18/06/2022 11:47

Realised I didn’t address the wheat part specifically. I’m not an expert on wheat free baking, my friend who is has a cupboard full of different flours. If you want to learn specifically, I would invest in a good gluten free baking book. Otherwise, gluten free flour is adequate just for thickening sauces etc.

Thank you so much everyone for all the advice, really helpful! I will look up the suggestions
