Temporary childcare - what to do?

So we were meant to move from East London (Newham) to North London this month, before I started work, but there has been a delay of about a month, maybe more.

Now DD, 11 months, has no childcare and I don't know where to go or what to do - local nurseries have wait lists and need 4 weeks notice before pulling the child out, and I'm under the impression that childminders don't do temp childcare.

Not too keen on a nanny because we live in a 1 bed flat - we would literally all be on top of each other in the living area which is open plan.

My mum has agreed to take her the 2 days that I'm in the office but looks after my niece already and is old so can't do any more than that.

Do I have any options?

Childminders absolutely do offer short-term childcare - I’ve just had to arrange care for two random days where we were left in the lurch with no other options. It’s annoying to go through all the work of organising it for such a short period, but with all the enquiries I sent I didn’t get any responses saying no we don’t offer short-term care, it just came down to spaces being available.

Get on childcare UK, suck it up and pay £15 for gold membership for 2 weeks and send a whole load of messages. You can get mobile numbers after the first contact and then cancel your membership. Get a few options just in case you’re let down (speaking from experience). Hope it works out, there’s no stress like having to sort childcare.

Childminders will do short term care. I'm a childminder and have done this before. It's worth asking around. I would do it but I'm in Manchester which is no help to you!

Oh thank you both! Silly me not doing my research properly. That's made me feel a lot better Smile

Agree cm do temp care

wouid a nanny go to your mums and look after dd there while she looks after her other gc

or you work at your mums and have a temp nanny at yours
