Advice please - Sole charge changing to 2 kids

What's the form on salary uptick when original contract was for sole charge and this is changing to 2 kids in July. Mother will also be at home on maternity leave from then too, so level of extra work probably won't change that much initially. Current rate net £300 a week?

I would suggest that once you return to work you give a modest increase - I gave my nanny an increase from £400 to 420 net a week (long hours she was doing) when I went back to work after baby 2.

Good luck.

I would think that one of the benefits of employing a nanny is that the salary is the same no matter how many childen (within reason) you have - I would not expect to increase the salary of a nanny because I had another child (especially when on maternity pay myself and at my least able to afford it).

I'd only expect my pay to increase after mat leave, and then not by much unless signif changes eg earlier start/later finish, extra time needed to do washing etc if nap times dont mesh. £300 is what Im on, with 2y, 3y and 3m (shared charge in theory, but mostly alone with all 3 or 2 oldest or just baba)

Maybe sitting bossmum down towards end of mat leave to discuss change of contract and bring up pay? esp if you've been there a while.

Sole charge means that "parents work out of home" not that you only have one child.

I think the current recomendation is a 5 - 10% raise as the contract is slightly different by the fact you are looking after 2 children instead of one.

Definetly sit and talk to mother about this.

I don't think you get a raise when another child comes along. But, you probably find load lightens in other areas. For example, you might not as much cooking when you have two to look after.

Unless of course if the hours change.

As a nanny, I've not had a raise when another child came along, neither were there any salary changes when mum was on maternity leave.
Parents choose a nanny because it can be cheaper than other forms of childcare, when there are many children involved. Nanny wages should be reviewed annually - as your own may be in your job - so that the wage can be adjusted for cost of living, changes to working hours. An extra child isn't in my view a reason to increase salary - there may be an increase in the weekly expenses (for activities, as some places charge extra for babies).
