Hello, I am just waiting for my first visit in a few days time. I am starting to get panicky about just how tidy my house has to be, and what stuff I need to have. I have remembered the fire blanket (!!) but sure have forgotten something. Any suggestions? How clean and tidy does it need to be? Dont get me wrong our house isnt a hovel(well my mum might disagree!!), but we do have a room with unpainted walls, and general clutter on some shelves and drawers. how closely will they be looking at everything. Also, how much do i need to know about the national guidelines? every time I try to read them now I get overwhelmed and forget what Ive jsut read!! panic is setting in, please can you help?

i cleaned my house like a loon for both my inspections - even the fridge was spotless but as long as it's basically clean and tidy i don't think they really notice - they are much to busy checking your paperwork and firstAid box etc - make sure you have your fire drill/procedure practiced and written down(i was marked down for not hasving done this)

oh and RELAX !!!

GOODLUCK

Hiya! I had my first inspection a few months ago and was petrified! But, it was actually really good and the inspector was really nice.
The house doesn't have to be spotless at all. It needs to be clean and tidy - clean so no germs harbouring etc and tidy in that children will not hurt themselves on unsuitable objects etc. They will not mind that the walls are not decorated yet. As long as the 'general clutter' isn't dangerous and is out the childrens harm then it is fine.
You do not need to know the national guidelines as such. Yes, they refer to them and you should have had a look through them etc, but they will not be asking you questions on them like an exam!
You will be fine I'm sure so try not to worry! I was exactly the same though so do understand that it's scary!
I came out of mine feeling really positive about my childminding service and that what i was doing was worthwhile

Oh yes, like Maximmummy, have your fire evacuation procedure written down and drawn if possible! I had written a bit down but didn't draw a map and it was mentioned (although not marked down I don't think!) that it should be done!
