I'm wondering what information I will need for deferment of my student loan. I've not been childminding a year yet so have no official accounts so I'm not sure what they will accept. does anyone know?

You mean to defer the repayment of it?

They don't start asking it back until you are earning 17k I think it is... that is, if you are in the UK and it was from the SLC?

i think you send them proof of your last 3 months of earnings. phone them up and ask.

The student loan is rather old now (don't like to admit how long ago it was that I went to uni!!) so I need to be earning over 24k before I need to pay it back (and that's not likely any time soon!!) so I will defer it but have always had payslips before.
I called them this morning and asked but they were as much use as a chocolate teapot!
Guess I'm just going to have to tell them that I'm self employed and have no official accounts yet and hope they accept that!

No help to offer but I just wanted to say Ive got one payment to student loans to pay off and thats it all paid. .
Sorry Im just happy today.

Oh well done you!!
I have to admit that I haven't paid any of mine as never earned enough or had the spare money either. Things would have been very different if I had gone to uni a few years later though as they changed the rules considerably I think.

why do you have to be earning 24k?

i have to pay mine back once i earn 15k

bookwormmum · 10/01/2008 19:27

Mine is either 10k or 15k - they changed it but it might depend on each individual loan when they enter repayment. So part of mine might be at 10k and part at 15k .

mine used to be 10k but it change to 15k about 3 years ago
