I had a very frightening experience with my charge this evening :(

We were on our way home from an afterschool activity, and she (6) was sat in the back of my car eating a mint imperial.
Anyway, for some reason i looked back at her in my rear view mirror, and saw her slumped forward clutching her throat . She was chocking on that dam sweet!!

So i VERY quickly slammed on the brakes, put hazards on and literally threw myself into the back of the car to help her. She was starting to get floppy ,but thankfully after a few swift slaps (and yes i know your not meant to do this anymore, but i panicked BIG TIME), the sweet dislodged.

I can't remember the last time i've ever been that scared , and all she said afterwards was, "you said the 'S' word" whoops!!

Thank goodness i did look back

Well thankfully i hadn't bruised her, but she did ask me if she could have one of those sweets after i collected her from school today!
Anyone think this child has a very short memory .

Oh Elf, that's so scary. Well done.

Can't believe she wanted another mint today!

The last time i was that scared was when i had to resusitate a baby at a nursery i was working at, who stopped breathing in his cot...never want to have to repeat that ever again in my life

This happened to me as a nanny aged 17, youngest choked on his dinner. I didn't realise I ask if he was OK he nodded but was going blue, swiflty over my knee and slapped his back, he coughed then sat up and finshed his dinner.

DD has choked on her tortellini at least 3 times, she was fine if I cut them all in half but if she got a whole one she choked.

Its so scary isn't it!

I'm super paronoid about spaghetti, and even now i break it up into pieces before cooking it

thank god she's ok elf-well done

I had to do the heimlich on my dd on her 13th birthday.

She threw a starburst sweet in the air and started choking on it ,all her friends thought she was joking until she started going a funny colour and droopy.

She still wanted to eat the sweet when it shot out of her mouth

very scary
