Childminder...i think it sounds so, nondescript and unimportant.."oh yes i mind chlidren"...i never say i have/run my own succesful business when i say im a childminder you can see people thinking.."hmm, childminder..oh she means babysitter"!..i even 'let' someone refer to me as a 'Nanny' the otehrr week as i though that sounded more important/proffesional...i think we need to launch a RENAME CAMPAIGN!!!

KatyMac · 09/01/2008 14:15

Professional childcare practitioner?? That's what NCMA wanted

southernbelle77 · 09/01/2008 14:19

Ooh I like that Katy. Think I might change my business cards!

ROSEgarden · 09/01/2008 14:21

what about poor me, i'm a playworker, it makes me sound like something out of Escort or Razzle.

KatyMac · 09/01/2008 14:52

Is that like TCP?

fruitloop79 · 09/01/2008 14:55

I loved the nanny's line on Jerry Maguire:

"Child Technician" PMSL!

I've used it before (in jest of course )

BradfordMum · 09/01/2008 15:37

Early Years Educator is my fave.

ROSEgarden · 09/01/2008 19:46

isnt PCP some kind of explosive????

ThePrisoner · 09/01/2008 20:35

When the NCMA asked for feedback on their ideas for new names, all I could think was that a child is unlikely to come out of school saying ... "My Professional Childcare Practitioner is collecting me today."

KatyMac · 09/01/2008 20:39

I wonder if we should be professional/qualified might be better than registered

registered is a bit naff

Mind you (on the other hand) SEN & SRN - is there still a difference?

MightyMoosh · 09/01/2008 20:41

when I was in training to be a nursery nurse I was told it was a sexist term or something, and had to use childcare worker, until then the only job I knew ending in worker started in 'sex'!

chel86 · 09/01/2008 21:36

Totally agree. A parent was on the phone when picking up mindee other week. She's lovely and we get on great, but I was a little offended when she referred to me as her babysitter

MightyMoosh · 09/01/2008 21:46

im refured to as my bosses 'helper' two years in college? training courses? pants. and Im always called babysitter too! Is nanny that hard to say?

ROSEgarden · 10/01/2008 11:41

its just so unofficial isnt it..minder..it NEEDS to be a titale..not an explanation, but what?

OP posts:
southernbelle77 · 12/01/2008 20:27

Rose, can I ask (sorry for sounding so naive (sp), where did you find out about a EYFS course? That is something I would like to do but no idea where to start looking!
Thanks.

ROSEgarden · 12/01/2008 20:29

my local cm group rang me about it, but if you contact you're local surestart office, they should be able to put you in touch, im surprised you havent been alerted to the training if you're already cming!, def ring them and ask

Feel like I'm out of the loop or something as never seem to get told about anything!
Really need to do some training for Food and Hygeine in the workplace or whatever it is!
Think I might make a list of questions for Surestart on Monday!
Thanks

ROSEgarden · 12/01/2008 20:33

i got the food and hygeine pack ordered it myself then got letter rom surestart/CIS telling me i didnt need it and was exempt!...they then sent me a certificate saying "exempt" on it!...get in touch first to save yourself the hassle, but def chase them up on EYFS!, everyone ahs to have it done by sept this year!
