Mat leave nanny returning early - question on giving temp nanny notice

Hi all

My permanent nanny was due to be on maternity leave until mid-march but she has indicated that she's like to come back a month early on a part-time basis. This is absolutely fine by me but it means I will have to give one of my temp nannies her notice. As far as I can see I will be fine just to give her the 2 weeks notice specified in her contract and with a letter stating why she is being finished early along with an offer of a reference, a thank you and a leaving pressie.

I'm guessing that this is absolutely fine legally, I don't mean to sound heartless but with 4 months service she wouldn't be entitled to a tribunal anyway but I do want to do the right thing.

Anyone know whether this is ok?

Thanks

Windy

Sounds ok to me. Anyone working as a temp nanny, knows it is for a temporary period. They will be expecting to be given notice at some point, as per the contract.

Write them a reference, including on it your address and phone number - so that future employers/agencies can check the reference. A thank you card from the children may be nice, a leaving pressie I'm sure would go down well.

yes, that seems fine- done temp nannying before- although one time I was let go early (live-in job abroad) I was given two weeks pay and the best ref ever, a full page extolling my virtues!

Yes, sounds okay to me.
