Nanny notice period

Am I being unreasonable?
I have been working for a family for nearly 3 years.I have just been made redundant as suddenly they dont want to pay for a full time nanny( child is in morning nursery)
Fair enough ,but what hurts me that they only gave me the contracted one month notice and after working through the lockdowns without missing a day, working during their house renovation in a building site I would have just expected a bit more notice. Also I will have to finish working only a month before I would qualify for 3 y of redundancy payment.I will get now only for 2 years. What are your views? Thanks a lot

Hi , sorry about your situation. I'm no expert but I think as long as you have been given your correct notice period there is nothing you can do . Please make sure you are paid or take any holiday you are owed

dirtyjoan · 06/03/2022 10:45

It does sound like the timing is deliberate but there really is nothing you can do if they have given the correct notice.

Pumpfive · 06/03/2022 13:21

I would say timing is deliberate from them.
It always makes me sad when families don't give more notice but contractually they are correct.

Isaidno22 · 16/03/2022 06:07

Are you owed holidays? Make sure you take them.

Unfortunately jobs and loyalty don’t exist

There is a shortage of nannies & some spectacular jobs around with some of the agencies- so I’m sure you’ll have a job in a week or so. Hopefully better conditions and pay to boot

mdh2020 · 16/03/2022 07:26

I’m afraid they have followed the terms of your contract. Don’t forget it works both ways - had you wanted to leave you would have only had to give a month’s notice.

Duracellbunnywannabe · 16/03/2022 07:29

They are sticking to the contract. Make sure you do the same for any holidays.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/03/2022 18:05

As others said they havnt done anything wrong

A month is what is in contract and what they gave

Any holiday due to make to 3yrs for redundancy

Im sorry this has happened to you, but it sounds like they've followed the terms of your contract. It must be a shock given you've worked there so long and sound very committed.

I have recently had a situation where a nanny effectively walked out and breached her contract notice period to go to a new job, which is the most stressful thing ever. At least they have respected the contract and you will also be due some accrued holiday pay as well as statutory redundancy pay. If you're looking for a new job in central Scotland please let me know!
