Interview for new job

I am in abit of a predicament here. I have a job interview for a fulltime job that I would really like and could be a good career once I get started in it and work my way up. I currently work part time in a job that I don't hate but there is no progression and I don't want to do it forever but is part time. I have worked out the money situation and I would earning a little bit less than I am now with the added childcare and travel expenses.
I really don't know what to do if I get the job. Go for a full-time job with progression but earn less money and see my kids less or stay where I am and hope a different job to comes up.
What would you do?

Could your new job offer hybrid working so you can work from home a few days a week to reduce your childcare costs (and commuting costs)? You don’t say how old your kids are. Long term the new full time role seems the best bet.

No it's in a hospital so wouldn't be able to do the hybrid working. I have a 3 year old and 8 year old so still got a while before they don't need childcare

Are you entitled to UC? They help with childcare costs, up to 85%, paying out a maximum of about £640 per child. You've probably already considered that but might help with the difference a little..

I have looked into universal credit and it tops my wage up abit but still under what I earn now and I don't claim universal credit at the minute. Honestly I think I'm struggling with the idea of not seeing my kids as much but not really getting anything back. Yes I have my foot on a potential career ladder which I would love but it is still an entry level job just over minimum wage. I really don't know what's for the best

In a similar predicament but I think I'm going to hang fire. Won't be able to get time with the kids back

Do these jobs come up a lot

Assume sept 23 youngest will be at school so childcare will go down then if find a cm to have both

Yes you may earn less to begin with but there is progression

I would go for it. You never know what's round the corner and you might regret it if you don't take it. The children will adapt regardless of your choice and in a few year's time, you could be really glad you made this choice.

Are you claiming your 30 "free" hours.of childcare now that your child is 3?

Marie1x · 01/03/2022 15:09

Well I went for the interview today and I think I would really love the job so fingers crossed I get it. With abit of annual leave placed in and around the school holidays it should work fine I think.
