Bloody Christmas/Whinge/Whine/Whimper

I have 2 weeks holiday a year (which i foolishly don't charge for)

One of these is at Christmas

With Bank holidays I got 11 days off this year - wow

But today the children came back

Ones that could eat with a spoon - now can't
Ones that were potty trained - now aren't
Ones that spoke in sentences - now monosyllabic
Ones whose parents normally collect on time - today late

I had such a crap day

They also seemed incapable of waiting from snack until lunch (less than 2 hrs) - desparatly hungry at the kitchen door for .....hmmm...chocolate or a biscuit (don't want fruit, mummy doesn't give me fruit want chocolate)

Sorry it has been horrid & I really wasn't prepared for it

Oh god a hate the first few days back!

Luckily for me I dont start back till monday, but that does mean they will have had even longer off.

MaureenMLove · 02/01/2008 18:45

Now you know full well that a fellow CM wouldn't leave you unanswered!

It was the same here! Luckily for me I only had one 8 year old, but my god, you can tell he's had no routine for 2 weeks! I'm sure it won't take you long to get them back in the routine of what happens in your house. Chin up, we're half way through the week already!

BTW, I only had about 11 days off too!

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 02/01/2008 18:46

I hope it improves for you v quickly!

BoysAreLikeDogs · 02/01/2008 18:47

Aw Snap, it'll not take long for all the children to get back into routine.

I'm back to work on Monday, this will be me late Monday evening.

Chin up

oh gawd, ive got all this to look forward to tomorrow!
its so nice having a break but i do hate the first couple of days back..... still we have a very hectic day planned so no time for moaning!

shoshe · 02/01/2008 19:11

Ive got them ALL back as well as its a teacher training day as well [sob]

ToomanynewyearsROSElutions · 02/01/2008 20:53

i had similar day chick so can moan to me anytime...had dd(an absolute angel), mindee age 3 mindee age 2 brand new today mindee not quite 1...heaven help me it has been ONE of those days!..and get me....i told ALL the parents tonight about their little darlings hitting, punching etc..so liberating to not have to say "oh yes they have been great"

LoveMyGirls · 02/01/2008 20:56

I would have had all that if my ft'er hadn't jsut left as it is i've got 2 new babies starting so would have to start from scratch anyway. I do know what you mean though , fustrating! On the bright side over the hols I have potty trained my own dd2 so that's one less thing to sort out!

Mum2Luke · 02/01/2008 21:25

Aw SnapD, 2008 has started badly hasn't it? It seems that some parents seem to not bother all the hard work in potty training, teaching them how to speak etc that we do goes out the window. grrrr!

The lad I mind came with his Ben 10 (I now hate Ben 10!)omnitrix watch thing which he fiddles with while we watch a film and it bleeps, I ask him nicely not to play with it until the film is finished but he ignores that. Older ds and dd glare at him and ds (5yrs) tells him to be quiet 'because I want to watch my dvd that my Nanna buyed me'.

I cannot wait till next Monday when they are all at school and 6th form college and I can get the house back to near normality. I'm thinking of looking for another job, maybe in a Suretstart creche, Council run sport centre creche or preschool in the local area. Work is more or less drying up around here, theres too many cms going for the few kids.

soapbox · 02/01/2008 21:31

That sounds grim, although I thought it might be interesting to get a parent's perspective

I love the school holidays where routines go to the wind and we all just bunker down having fun and enjoying ourselves. And TBF, it is probably the parents (of school aged children at least) that take the brunt of getting them back into the normal routine. Getting bedtime re-established, setting time limits on PC, TV usage, and getting back to normal healthy eating and foods etc.

On balance though, it is definitely worth the pain of putting it back together again! I wouldn't miss these long unstructured days for all the money in the world

ToomanynewyearsROSElutions · 03/01/2008 13:14

hows your day been today SnapD?

snapD · 03/01/2008 18:57

Soapbox - It might be you that get your children back into routine but here working 8-6 with children (under 5 admittedly) 5 days a week, I think it will be me

Much better today I was on a course no children at all
